05/05/2026

Jessamine County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is dedicated to providing high-quality, lifesaving care to residents and visitors of Jessamine County. As one of Kentucky’s most progressive EMS agencies, the department combines advanced medical capabilities, highly trained personnel, and a strong commitment to excellence, integrity, and compassion. Through emergency response, innovative treatment, and continuous improvement in patient care, Jessamine County EMS plays a critical role in protecting the community’s health and safety.

What does EMS do?

Jessamine County EMS delivers critical pre-hospital care, responding to medical emergencies and providing both basic and advanced life support. Their goal is to ensure patients receive immediate, high-quality care before reaching a hospital.

Operating from three stations, the service is staffed by highly trained professionals who follow evidence-based protocols under medical direction. Crews maintain their clinical expertise through ongoing hands-on and online training, preparing them for a wide range of emergencies. Using state-of-the-art equipment, including cardiac monitors, ventilators, video laryngoscopes, IV pumps, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and mechanical CPR devices, paramedics are able to deliver hospital-level care in the field.

Why does this department matter?
In emergency situations, minutes, or even seconds, can mean the difference between life and death. Jessamine County EMS ensures that lifesaving care begins immediately, wherever it is needed.

The department is recognized as one of the most clinically progressive and award-winning EMS services in Kentucky. Its culture of excellence drives both patient care and innovation. Through partnerships with organizations such as the Kentucky Blood Center and the University of Kentucky, EMS has introduced prehospital whole blood transfusions, bringing emergency room-level trauma care directly to patients. This advancement significantly improves survival rates and expands access to critical care regardless of location.

Did you know?

Jessamine County EMS recently enhanced its fleet with an upgraded Quick Response Vehicle, MEDIC1. Redesigned to better handle austere and challenging environments, the vehicle allows supervisors to reach scenes more efficiently, support crews in real time, and safely access patients in off-road or difficult locations. With increased equipment capacity and improved support for patient transport, MEDIC1 represents a major step forward in operational capability as the community continues to grow.

Additional accomplishments and statistics include:
• Cardiac arrest outcomes continue to improve; in 2025, EMS achieved its highest Utstein survival rate at 66.7%.
• The department earned the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Gold with Heart Attack Honor Roll and has maintained top recognition for nearly 10 years.
• Jessamine County EMS is one of only 11 Resuscitation Academy Lighthouse Communities in the United States.
• It is among the longest-running recipients of EMS for Children recognition for Excellence in Pediatric Readiness and Care.
• Crews respond to approximately 10,000–11,000 calls for service each year.
• The department operates as the sixth licensed Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) program in Kentucky, in partnership with the Jessamine County Health Department, focusing on substance use disorder and falls prevention.

As part of our May Department Spotlight, we also recognize National EMS Week, observed May 17–23, 2026. This annual event marks 52 years of honoring EMS professionals and highlights their vital role in keeping communities safe. It is an opportunity to thank these dedicated individuals for delivering lifesaving care every day.

Jessamine County Fiscal Court is proud to support and recognize its exceptional, award-winning EMS department for its unwavering commitment to serving the community with excellence.
