Memorial Day is not just a day for picnics and fun, even though we all enjoy the time when we get to spend it with family and friends. Today, we pay tribute to those heroes that gave the their life as the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom all of us so often take for granted. Camp Nelson Cemetery is just one small place where those heroes rest on this Memorial Day. We pray for those families that are grieving their loved ones today and every day.

A joint resolution of Congress, approved Oct. 1, 1962, designated May 15 of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week. This observance pays tribute to local, state and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty. In the course of my 38 year dispatch career, I have had the honor of knowing and working with 3 of the 7 officers that have been added to the Peace Officers Memorial. I am honored that I was chosen to give the final call for a couple of them, and other First responders, and/or coach our Dispatchers through that difficult task for the rest of our officers and First Responders that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their communities. This week we have paid tribute to the officers that currently serve Nicholasville Police Department, Wilmore Police Department, and Jessamine County Sheriff's Office. This Friday, we pay tribute to those that did not get the chance to go home to their families, something we as Dispatchers try so hard to ensure.

Here are those officers:
Captain Charles B. Morgan EOW: 11/28/2001
Deputy Billy Ray Walls.III EOW: 11/13/2001
Deputy Ethelbert Wainscott EOW: 02/14/1990
Deputy Jailer Logan Young EOW: 12/27/1908
Special Deputy Sheriff Ward Pentz EOW: 05/21/1906

Officer Burke Javon Rhoads EOW: 03/11/2015
Officer William Paul Ketron EOW: 06/25/1941
