Jessamine County is blessed with the best dispatchers that are the heartbeat of our county!

This week, April 14-20, 2024 is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. This is a week set aside to honor the men and women who work so diligently behind the scenes to keep our citizens and first responders safe. They are the men and women that answer 911 calls and dispatch responders to emergencies and non-emergencies alike.

If you are a citizen that has to use 911, please remember that these individuals are not the ones coming to the scene. They are in fact the eyes and ears of the responders and every question that is asked is done so to assure that the responders have an accurate portrayal of they situation you are experiencing. Please don't tell them to quit asking so many questions as that is precisely what they are trained to do, ask questions and obtain information to give responders an accurate description.

If you are a responder, be it Police, Fire, EMA, EMS, Animal Control, Utilities, or Coroner, please take the time to thank these individuals for the countless times that they have done things right. It seems that we only hear from you when something has gone wrong. Please keep in mind that we obtain as much information from the caller as we can to give you an accurate account of what is happening at the scene. We know that many time the story changes by the time you arrive, however, we do our best to decipher what is actually happening. Remember that we only have our ears to rely on, we cannot see what you do when you arrive, unless the caller will allow us access to their cell phone camera.

To the Telecommunicators of Jessamine County 911, you are a very dedicated, hard working group of individuals that do what you do for the love of helping others. "Never underestimate the lives you have touched and the difference you have made." It is by no means a high paying job and the majority of you have been in the career for less than 5 years. This is relatively new territory for us as we've had several retire in the past couple years. This by no means diminishes your committment and dedicated to the citizens and responders of Jessamine County. "May you be proud of the work you do, the person you are, and the difference you make!" You truly are "Super Stars"! Thank you for making my job so rewarding!

If you have the opportunity this week, please remember to take the time to thank these Super Stars for their hard work and dedication!

Deputy Director

National Weather Service has just completed damage assessment in Nicholasville and are classifying this storm as an EF1 Tornado wind speeds of 110mph. The area is still under lock down and we are allowing utility crews to complete the necessary assessments and restorations. Many structures that are destroyed have to be cut loose and debris removed In order to complete this. We appreciate the community support and as questions are arising about Tornado Warnings not getting issued and sirens sounded. In truth, No time. This storm developed right on top of us and was gone. This just shows the need to prepare when the weather threat is imminent. Lesson learned from this event and past and we had already intended to issue local warnings for potentially damaging thunderstorms as well as Tornados, and plan to implement this with the new siren system when it’s completely installed. Please stay aware and prepare. Were not done yet. More storms are already approaching.
