Meet Tony Jackson, he is one of our relief (part-time) EMTs. Tony has been working for OCEMS for the last 8 months and will be attending Paramedic school in the fall! He is a Niceville HS and UWF graduate. In his "free" time he watches Disney movies with his beautiful 6yo daughter :) He recently purchased a fixer-upper home and is doing the remodel himself. Recently, paramedic Samantha Diaz attended a trauma conference held at West Florida. Guest speakers reviewed many different types of trauma including shootings, car accidents and even toxic trauma. Continuing education is very important in EMS as a refresher and because emergency medicine is an ever evolving field. The main speaker of the conference was Deputy Chief Ken Bouvier from New Orleans EMS. He also happens to be part of the show on A&E. A show that follows New Orleans EMS. If you want a glimpse into the EMS world, catch an episode! New episodes start in November.

Week 3 of meet our EMS crews! Meet Tyler Gagner, Paramedic on Medic 1. Tyler is the new dad to "the cutest baby ever" and loves spending as much time as possible with his family. He and his fiancee, Chelsea, just welcomed baby Aiden into the world. They also have a dog Hobie. Tyler has been working for OCEMS for 5 and 1/2 years with his EMS career having started when he was 19 years old! He started here as a part time EMT and has worked up to Paramedic. He is also one of our field trainers and a member of the infectious disease transport team. He loves his job, the Gators and considers EMS to be his other family. Thank you, Tyler for all you do!!! :)

Congrats to the Niceville Fire Department on their new apparatus Tower 21. NVFD is completing the ceremonial 'push back' into the truck bay, officially putting the new truck in service!
This tradition is done to make every effort to honor and pay homage to past and oldtime members that had to push their engines into the station.

Tower 21 is ready to serve its community!

My name is Kevin Bishop and I have been an EMT since 2012. I have worked for OCEMS since 2014 and I have also volunteered since 2013. I started out as a relief EMT and then stepped into a fulltime role on Medic 6 B-shift in the Northeastern part of the county in April 2015 where I worked until February 2016. In February, I transferred to medic 1 in Niceville. During my time working full time at OCEMS, I have worked with a multitude of paramedics. Since April 2016, Amber Coleman and I have been partners on medic one. Working with OCEMS is the most rewarding career I could ever ask for. The hard work and dedication that each and every employee at OCEMS puts in, is paid off when we look at the patient in need, or the family of that patient and they say “Thank you”. I find it very rewarding to go home from work knowing that I helped make a positive change in someone’s life that day. I am proud to stand beside the best of the best and serve our great community and look forward to many more years of doing so!

My name is Amber Coleman. I am your paramedic on M1 Bshfit. I have been working in EMS for 7 years. I am currently a paramedic and have been working as one since October 2015. I have always felt the calling to help people and upon entering EMT school over 7 years ago, after my first clinical ride I knew this is how I wanted to carry out my heart’s desire. Every patient and family member I come in contact with I want to give my best care and treatment as if they were my own family because we are all human and when anyone has to call for emergency help, that moment is potentially the worst of their lives. Nobody deserves anything less than my best on the worst days. If putting a smile on a face and holding a hand comforting all the way to the hospital is the best treatment I can provide, I will do it because I care and want to make sure my patients feel it. If more aggressive emergency medical procedures are required, I will do them safely and within good intention to never harm but help my patients. Helping those who cannot or do not know how to help any further is my heart’s desire and I plan to continue to give my best each day of my career

We know you consider your pets family and love to take them everywhere with you, but please don't leave them in your car while you run errands or go to the beach. It will be over 90 degrees today and that means the temperature in your car can reach over 140 degrees! In fact, during that quick 20min trip into the store your cars temperature has already increased to 125 degrees, even with the windows cracked. These heat related deaths happen so quickly and are so easily prevented. This summer: If you love them, leave them at home.

Heat Advisory!! Ladies and gentlemen, it's going to be a hot one today! It's 10am and already feels like 103 and will stay that way until 6pm. Please remember to stay cool and hydrate all day long. Also just because it maybe overcast does not mean you do not need sunscreen. Apply and reapply every few hours. Stay safe this holiday weekend!
