Room Share, Not Bed Share

Safe Sleep Fact #3:

Experts recommend that babies sleep in the same room as their parents, but not in the same bed.

Room sharing — keeping your baby’s crib, bassinet, or portable play yard close to your bed — allows for easier nighttime feeding and comfort while keeping your baby in their own safe sleep space.

This simple practice can help reduce the risk of SIDS and promote healthy sleep routines for your little one.

Celebrating 25 Years of Protecting Children and Strengthening Families!

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center (ECCAC)! For a quarter of a century, we have been dedicated to providing hope, healing, and justice to child abuse victims and their families across Okaloosa and Walton Counties.

From humble beginnings to serving thousands of children and families each year, our mission has remained the same- to protect children, support families, and prevent abuse through education and community partnerships.

We couldn’t have done it without you- our partners, donors, volunteers, and community supporters who make this work possible every day. Thank you for standing with us for 25 incredible years.

Here’s to the next 25 years; continuing to build a safer, stronger community for every child.

Safe Sleep Fact #2:

A safe crib is a clear crib. Your baby’s sleep space should be simple and free of loose items that can pose a risk.

✔️ Firm mattress
✔️ Fitted sheet only
🚫 No blankets, pillows, bumper pads, or stuffed animals

Keeping the crib clear gives your baby a safe environment to sleep and grow — and gives parents peace of mind.

This month is Safe Sleep Month and we want to share some facts with you to help keep your baby safe!

The safest way for babies to sleep is on their backs, both at night and during naps. Placing your baby on their back each time they sleep greatly reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Once babies are strong enough to roll over on their own, it’s okay to let them find their own comfortable sleeping position — no need to reposition them.

Creating consistent, safe sleep habits early helps your baby rest better and keeps them safe.

What a wonderful evening at the Freeport Mayor’s Ball!

We had such an amazing time connecting with community leaders and supporters who share our mission of protecting and caring for children in need.

The support from events like the Mayor’s Ball helps the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center continue providing critical services, including therapy, advocacy, prevention, and education for children and families in our community.

Thank you to Mayor Russ Barley and the City of Freeport for hosting such a beautiful event and for your continued partnership in helping us make a difference.

It’s Fire Safety Week!
As we cozy up for fall and get ready for Halloween fun, it’s the perfect time to check in on fire safety around your home. A few simple steps can help keep your family safe this season.

Fall Safety Tips:

Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn.
Check and replace batteries in smoke alarms.
Never leave candles unattended. Consider flameless options for that fall glow.

Halloween Safety Tips:
Choose flame-resistant costumes and decorations.
Use glow sticks or LED candles in pumpkins instead of real flames.
Keep pathways well-lit and clear for trick-or-treaters.

Small precautions make a big difference. Let’s keep this season warm, safe, and fun for everyone.
