𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤: The Water Department will be conducting routine flushing on the side streets of Boston Post Rd in East Lyme this week.

Be advised that temporary discoloration of the water may occur in these areas during flushing. When flushing occurs, sediment that accumulates in the mains becomes disturbed and temporarily suspended in the water causing a brown, red, orange, or yellow color.

This disturbance usually lasts for approximately two to four hours. The discolored water is not a health threat. However, the discolored water can stain clothing, so it is best to wait several hours for the water to clear before doing any laundry.

Also, do not use any hot water as you may draw the discolored water into your hot water tank, which may have to be flushed later. If you were doing laundry when the water became discolored, rewash the laundry later when the water is clear. Use a rust stain remover or regular detergent. Do not use chlorine bleach. Chlorine can react with iron and can form a permanent stain.

Good Morning!
The Water Department will resume our fall flushing program today. We will begin by clearing air out of areas affected by last week's main break. We will be focusing on Boston Post Rd, and heading from Upper Pattagansett and heading west to the edge of our system in the Frog Hollow area. Water Main Break occurred last night near Bride Lake. The main was repaired early this morning. Customers in nearby areas such as West Society/Harvest Glen may experience no water temporarily while air is trapped in the main from the break. Staff will be flushing the system over the next few hours.

Please be advised that the Water Department had a main break over night starting around midnight. We are still working the break, and the upper Flanders areas of town will have low pressure while the tanks fill. Please be patient with us as we continue to make repairs. See picture below that shows the entire bottom of the main has blown out. We are currently cutting in a new piece. Big thanks to ELPD for handling our calls and assisting maintaining safety on the roadway.
