The Waterford Public Library is excited to announce the launch of a plant swap and propagation station! Donate, swap and adopt plant cuttings for free. The propagation station is open to everyone in the community, and you do not need a library card to participate!

We are looking for donations of plant cuttings and glass jars/containers to jumpstart the station. Please bring your donations to the Information Desk, beginning on January 6th. We recommend that you wrap donations in a wet paper towel, placed in a glass jar. A plastic or paper bag is also acceptable, but glass jars/containers are preferred. Please make sure to label your donation so that we know what type of plant it is.

Launch date is Monday, February 3!

Please note: The Library cannot accept whole plant donations in pots of dirt at this time.

Reach out to adult services librarian, Britta Obertello, at [email protected] for more information.

You may have heard that a number of wildfires in our state are currently in the "mop up" stage. Pro tip - there are no kitchen mops used in the extinguishing of these fires 🙃😆 Mop-up is a wildfire term that means extinguishing any remaining hot spots, including burning inside of trees, in the soil, or in ash piles. This photo shows a tree that had burned at Rocky Neck State Park and was cut during mop-up yesterday. Fire can linger deep within the trunks of trees, and it is necessary to cut the trees to extinguish them fully.
