June is recognized as Elder Abuse Awareness Month to shed light on the neglect, exploitation, and abuse that vulnerable older adults face. The focal point of the month is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), which is officially observed every year on June 15th.

The Senior Companion Program continued to shine today! Several members attended the 22nd Annual Niagara County Senior Walk in the Park, sponsored by The Health Association of Niagara County Inc. - HANCI! They shared smiles, assistance to other attendees from Complete Senior Care - PACE and some pretty amazing dance moves! We love seeing our volunteers demonstrating what an active and kind lifestyle can do for our community! ❤️💙

Each participant received a Narcan Kit and valuable information to help keep themselves and others safe. We also heard about this great, EXCLUSIVELY Niagara County resource guide to keep us all healthy and prepared!

Every May since 1963, our nation has celebrated Older Americans Month—a time to honor the generations who built our communities and continue strengthening them every day.

At AmeriCorps, we’re proud to recognize the older adults whose service bridges generations, supports neighbors, and ensures no one is left behind.

Last year, more than 130,000 older Americans served as AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteers, contributing over 29 million hours of reading with children, supporting older adults, strengthening nonprofits, and reducing poverty across the country.

Their wisdom, dedication, and compassion make our communities stronger. This month, and every month, we celebrate them.
