Statement on Passing of former Legislature Chairman Bill Ross
Mike Hill, Chairman, Niagara County Legislature
โI was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Ross โ the man many of us simply called โCoach.โ Bill was a true gentleman, a dedicated public servant, and someone who cared deeply about Niagara County and its people.
โBill was the longest-serving Chairman in the history of the Niagara County Legislature, a testament to the respect and confidence he earned from his colleagues and the community. His contributions extended well beyond the Legislature, including his work as a trustee of SUNY Niagara and as a member of the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency.
โIt was my pleasure to serve with Bill on the Legislature. I valued his wisdom, his friendship, and his commitment to making Niagara County a better place. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
โOn behalf of the Niagara County Legislature, I extend my deepest condolences to Billโs family, friends, and loved ones.โ
Rich Andres, Niagara County Legislator
โToday is a sad day in Niagara County with the passing of Bill Ross, long-time Chairman of the Legislator, an educator and coach, and truly an elder statesman in our community.
โI always admired Billโs commitment to helping others, but what I will remember most was his ability to bring people together. Bill understood that you donโt have to agree with someone on everything to work together to accomplish something good for the community. As Chairman, he always looked for common ground and treated people with respect, regardless of their political party or point of view. That ability to build consensus was one of his greatest strengths and a big reason why he earned the respect of so many people.
โAs someone who spent his life as an educator, coach and public servant, Bill was always teaching โ whether he was in a classroom, on a football field or in the Legislature. You can tell that was his true passion.
โI am grateful to have known Bill and to have called him a colleague. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who knew and loved him. Niagara County has lost a great man.โ
