Please help, and voice your support of our Home and tell Albany to vote NO.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, May 24), Assemblyman David Weprin (D-Queens) is bringing a bill he sponsors (A 7160/S 6269) to a vote in the Assembly Insurance Committee that would take funding currently allocated for the Firefighters’s home in Hudson and direct it to be paid to NYS Professional Firefighters Association.

The FASNY Firefighter's Home would lose $700,000 in funding under this proposal.

This is unacceptable and incredibly insulting to the brave men and women serving their communities in volunteer fire departments. The Firefighter’s Home was created in 1892 by volunteer fire organizations as a place for indigent firefighters as a refuge of last resort. It started as a working farm and eventually evolved into a skilled nursing facility. The Firefighter’s Home does not receive any Medicare/Medicaid money and it needs this funding.

Volunteer firefighters save our state billions of dollars annually all while putting their lives on the line to serve their communities, despite receiving none of the salary, health benefits, or retirement benefits that paid professional firefighters receive – and yet this proposal wants to steal money away from our Firefighter’s Home!

We need all FASNY members to help make sure that all members of the Assembly Insurance Committee hear our 80,000+ voices from across the state and vote no on this egregious money grab.
