The Second Company Governor's Horse Guard The Horse Guard serves the State of Connecticut through history preservation and community service. JOIN US!

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard was chartered in 1808 to serve and protect the governor of the state of Connecticut. Today, this all volunteer unit continues to serve the state under the command of the Adjutant General and Connecticut Military Department. Every year from October to January, we recruit a new class of troopers. Recruit training begins in March and is a 16-week program that

teaches new recruits military customs and courtesies, drill and ceremony, basic horsemanship, equitation, and military leadership. Are you a good fit?

~No military or equestrian experience required.
~You must be at least 18 years old.
~You must pass a physical exam and background check.
~You must be available to participate in special events, community outreach, and parades throughout the year.
~After graduation from recruit training, you must attend drills on Thursdays in the summer and Sundays in the winter. Click here for an application:

Welcome to the Horse Guard!
Today we welcomed 6 new recruits into the 2026 class.
Recruits were shown the proper wear of the uniform and sworn in as member of this great company. They learned rank recognition, military customs and courtesies and learned some static drill maneuvers.
It was a lot for them to learn on day one but the recruits and cadre did a terrific job honoring 2GHG!🇺🇸🫡
