Rep. Mitch Bolinsky supported a (P.A. 26-35) comprehensive bill aimed at improving services, benefits, and protections for Connecticut’s veterans and military families. The bill enhances oversight of veterans’ services, delivers targeted tax relief, and introduces a new dental care program for veterans—marking one of the most significant new benefits in recent years.🇺🇸

Several of Rep. Mitch Bolinsky’s long-term priorities were also made real in the implementation in this year’s budget bill.

▪️”We advanced a new, statewide caregiver tax-credit that I had been proposing and supporting for years.”

▪️”We finalized the state’s piece of a federal requirement to “recognize” Newtown’s right to cross a former Housatonic Railroad spur near the old Batchelder property. This “officially” clears the way for the long-awaited Newtown “Rails to Trails” project to proceed! Stay tuned for news of the ground-breaking!”

Other positives in the final proposal eliminate sales tax on non-electronic school supplies, and an expansion of the sales tax exemption for eligible clothing under $300 during tax free week in August, up from $100.

🏡 Newtown is its own unique town, with small-town character and quiet neighborhoods. Our residents have historically loved our vistas, parks, trails, and open spaces, so it’s easy to see why others might like to share, but we’ve never been particularly shy about defending our town’s unique style and feel…. I’m afraid this mandating of “one-size-fits-all” housing style, density, parking, and traffic volume, combined with less reliance of our own municipal land use and zoning regulations, could lead to a fair amount of local pushback, and feelings by some residents of being removed from the review process. Newtowners care about local land conditions, open space, clean water, infrastructure limitations, traffic, and parking dynamics.

A really informative interview summarizing the 2026 work of the CT Legislature with AARP, and stakeholders. The video is a real inside look at how the lawmaking process should work and how, when it's hitting on all cylinders, it can acheive positive change in the lives of its subject population. All it takes is a "can do" attitude and prioritizing people & policy over politics.

It's a pleasure being part of a great leadership team on CT's Aging Committee, where productivity comes from shared objectives and collaboration.

🇺🇸On the evening of Thursday, May 21, 2026, incumbent Newtown State Rep. Mitch Bolinsky was unanimously endorsed for re-election at a caucus of the Newtown Republican Town Committee. The 2026 general election for all Connecticut General Assembly House and Senate seats will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd.

Bolinsky, has served his hometown as Newtown's conservative "Voice of Reason", in the single-town 106th House District since winning his first election, in November 2012.

A collaborative voice, Mitch looks forward to continue serving all the people in the 106th District . “I’m proud of what we have accomplished in Hartford but there is still much more to do,” he said. “I will keep fighting for seniors, children, taxpayers and veterans, and for public safety in our communities. I'm also dedicated to slamming the brakes on the unaffordability crisis that is making it so hard to make ends meet for CT taxpayers. In 14-years, I have never voted to raise state taxes, nuisance fees, and, since the SHOCK of our August, 2024 electric bills, I've opposed the 'hidden taxes' being extorted under the cover of imaginary, and government-created 'Emergency Orders' by way of Public Benefits.

Upon the completion of the selection process, Bolinsky spoke to the Town Committee, expressing his gratitude to each and every member, saying: "Thank you, friends, for placing your confidence in me team again, for what will be an eighth term representing Newtown, the community my family has called home for 26-years! Serving this incredible community as its State Representative has been the most profound honor of my life."

"I never dreamt of a life in politics but, coming from the private-sector was actually a perfect way to begin what turned out to be my second successful career. After a fulfilling 30-year career in consumer-products marketing, new-product development and consumer-behavioral research, I initially declined an offer to run for office in 2012 until my wife and friends convinced me that the skillset, ability to listen, collaborate & find common sense solutions might be a refreshing change from politics as usual."

"They were right! Serving Newtown with integrity and without DC-style political polarization has helped me forge the kind of strategic relationships that get things done and, my marketing mindset is appreciated by colleagues. For me, getting the job done is more important than mugging for cameras. This also positions me for coveted opportunities to work on priority bills in my leadership role on the legislature's Aging Committee, where our teams have earned state and national legislative achievement recognition in 3 of the last 4-years for two "Governor's bills" and a "Speaker's bill".

Despite serving as a minority member of the House, Rep. Bolinsky's finger is on the pulse of the good, the bad, and the ugly of Hartford politics. His results are well documented, his smile is genuine, and he remains true to his marketing pedigree. It's a better way.

God Bless those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the US Armed Forces.

Please pause on this, and every Memorial Day, for a National Moment of Remembrance. At 3:00 p.m. local time, all Americans are asked to pause for a minute of silence to honor and reflect on the sacrifices made by the fallen.

Never forget, we owe our freedoms, and our very way of life to them.
