Newtown Library Company The Library has a collection of over 21,135 books. Visit us at 114 Centre Avenue, Newtown, PA, 18940 In 1883, a new larger building was constructed at Court St.

Founded on August 9, 1760, the Newtown Library Company was granted incorporation by a Special Act of the Pennsylvania Legislature, approved March 27,1789. Until 1824 the collection of books journeyed from the homes of various librarians to the old Court House building. But when Issac Hicks donated land, the Company erected first library building to give the collection a more permenant home. and Ce

ntre Ave across from the Half Moon Tavern. In 1912 the Company dedicated the present building. An expansion in 1979 provided additional stack rooms, a children’s area, librarian work space and ramps for the handicapped. Two public reading rooms are maintained where anyone may freely enjoy the many resources of Newtown’s unique educational institution.

After having so much fun with our first Canasta groups, we’re excited to make it a regular part of our Library lineup! Join us every other Thursday, starting September 17 through November 12.

Games are limited to 8 participants, so registration is required.

🀄 Did you play Mahjong with us this summer for Mahjong on Centre?

Our Monday evening Mahjong nights are more than just a great way to play—they’re a fundraiser for the Newtown Library Company! Thanks to our Mahjong players and other generous donors, we’ve already been able to replace the Children’s Area carpet, recover the bench cushions, and purchase a new, more accessible board book bookshelf. 💙📚

Next on our wish list: new chairs and a larger table! And our fall Mahjong on Centre sessions will help us get there.
