Ocugen is advancing groundbreaking gene therapy for degenerative eye diseases that eventually lead to blindness. PA is the perfect place for leaders in biotech, both big and small, to locate, conduct research, perfect therapies and manufacture medications that can literally change lives.

But we need to create a more conducive environment for biotech to grow and to get their product to market where it can make a real difference in people’s lives.

Thrilled to join my colleague Rep. Paul Friel to tour Ocugen’s R&D facility and learn more about the future of their work and how it is changing lives for those enrolled in its gene therapy trial. Paul and I, along with our colleague PA State Rep. Thomas Kutz introduced bipartisan legislation to remove regulatory barriers for pharmaceutical start-ups so they can set up operations and move faster to production once federal approval is secured.

So much groundbreaking research happening in our commonwealth! Thank you Ocugen Patient Engagement for sharing your groundbreaking work to arrest and reverse certain types of blindness causing diseases.

When two things you champion come together.

Tonight, the Phillies raising awareness about domestic violence with Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence a group I’ve worked closely with on HB72 which provides crucial housing protections and safety options for victims of domestic violence who share a lease with an abuser.

Thank you PCADV for the important work you do & thank you Philadelphia Phillies!

Earlier this week, I joined my colleague Rep. Leanne Krueger at Main Line Health Mirmont Treatment Center located right in the 168th. We were thrilled to meet with the dedicated team who are committed to Mirmont's mission of addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of drug and alcohol addiction.

I was so impressed with the range of support they offer to individuals on their recovery journey from substance use disorders and mental health conditions. It is a beautiful, welcoming, non-judgmental space with support not only from caring healthcare professionals, but a network of alumni who provide much needed "I've been there too" support.

The program is committed to serving all those ready to start their treatment journey and will work with people on the financial aspects but are focused on getting people access to the care they need when they need it.

Well, just like that, backpacks are getting packed🎒and alarm clocks set ⏰…back-to-school time is here!

🙌 To all the young learners heading back this week: I hope your school year is filled with new experiences and moments that make you proud.
🤝 To the parents & grown-ups by their sides, helping with the homework & early mornings: I know the feeling… you’ve got this, too!

We’re lucky in the 168th to have such strong schools and so many caring, dedicated people who show up to them (often at the peak of dawn!) day after day for our kids.

I’m incredibly proud of everyone – from the students to the custodial staff to the bus drivers – heading out the door today & tomorrow to schools in our community. I wish you a wonderful year ahead, and hope you have a fantastic first week!
