Retired Sgt. Todd Welch presented a plaque to the Newtown Township Police Association for their donation towards the 2026 Police Unity Tour. Sgt. Welch and his wife rode from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. to honor and raise awareness to officers killed in the line of duty. Great job!

We started the planning process for the 2026 PGA Championship 2 years ago. We can't say enough about the team effort put forth by all our assisting law enforcement agencies during the event. Without their support, none of this happens. Special thanks to Sgt. Strathy, Sgt. Sebra and Lt. Holstein (PSP) who worked long hours to assure a smooth operation. We also need to mention Chief Flannagan (Radnor PD), Chief Graeff (Marple PD) for stepping up to relieve our command staff when needed.

We were assisted by federal (F.B.I., Homeland Security-Federal Air Marshalls, ATF), state (PA State Police), and local (Radnor, Marple, Haverford, Upper Darby, Upper Providence, Willistown, Easttown, Lower Merion, Upper Chichester, Montgomery County Sheriffs, Delco Central Tactical Team, Delco Sheriffs) agencies. We had over 500 law enforcement officers work the event during the week.

We were lucky enough to work with an Aronimink and PGA administration, who from the start, prioritized public safety and assuring residents were minimally impacted by the event.

So to all, Thank you!

Traffic – Beginning Monday May 11th, 2026, at 04:00 hours St. Davids Rd. will be closed to all traffic with exception of persons with appropriate hangtags. The road will be closed from 4am until 10pm daily until May 17th. The road COULD open earlier if daily play allows. The road will not be open any earlier than 6pm. If there should be weather-related delays during the week, play could extend until Monday May18th.

School buses, trash, lawn and “At Home” medical services will be allowed through as long as they have appropriate markings and addresses along that route. If possible, reschedule any services for that week as there will be delays getting through to effected neighborhoods.

Surrounding roads will have law enforcement present to assist with traffic flow to keep any inconveniences to residents at a minimum.

Drone Use in the area – There will be an FAA authorized “No Fly Zone” for any unauthorized aircraft(s) in effect for the area surrounding Aronimink Golf Club during the week of May 11th through May 17th, 2026. This includes all drone use in the area surrounding Aronimink Golf Club. There will be UAS (drone) detection and mitigation teams in place to deal with any unauthorized drone use during the week.

We would like to assure township residents that all emergency services will remain staffed at normal daily staffing levels. Any emergency services utilized at the PGA event are supplemental services, in addition to being funded by the PGA.

Marple-Newtown High School Seniors are continuing the tradition of the “Senior Assassin” game.

This game involves students “stalking and shooting” each other with water guns until there is one senior left standing. This game is basically Hide and Seek with water guns.

Each year around this time, we receive calls reporting suspicious people on or around resident’s property. This usually is a student(s) hiding or sneaking around while playing the game. Even though we are not big fans of the game, we like to keep the public informed and give the students a few reminders:

Consider that the public may not view you as playing a game.
Do not trespass onto other people’s property.
If you are asked to leave somebody’s property, do so.
Use water guns that are bright in color. You do not want to use anything that resembles a firearm.
Avoid wearing camouflage or hiding in dark places.
If you see the police in the area where you’re playing, DO NOT RUN AND HIDE. Simply explain to the officer what you’re doing.

And to our residents. If you see anything suspicious, please dial 911. DO NOT confront anyone. We will be happy to investigate and assist you.
