The Cooper Center is delighted to host one of seven Artful Pianos this year! Stop by to see – or play – this gorgeous piano at the corner of Highland Avenue and Walnut Street.

The Artful Pianos project brings the joy of music and public art to various sites in Newton. (The other six sites are the Auburndale Community Library, Captain Ryan Park, Farlow Park, Newton Centre Green, John O’Hara Square in Newton Highlands, and Upper Falls.)

Many thanks to Newton, MA Community Events, which spearheads this beloved annual project, and to their sponsors: Spark Newton, the UPS Store Newton Centre, and Celebree School of Newton.

The Cooper Center is happy to be hosting “The Monologue Project: Blind, Deaf and Physically Disabled Voices” on Sunday, May 31, at 4:00 p.m., in our Multipurpose Room.

Newton Theatre Company’s The Monologue Project is an initiative that seeks to bring the community together through the power of personal storytelling. Each production highlights a different community group in Newton, creating a space for individuals to share their authentic selves. They start with one prompt: Tell us your story.

This event is funded in part by Spark Newton as part of the Linda Plaut Festival of the Arts, in collaboration with the City of Newton. Free admission. All are welcome.

Everyone has a story to tell.

Newton Theatre Company’s The Monologue Project: Voices of the Blind, Deaf and Physically Disabled will be an evening of original performance centered on lived experience, identity, resilience, and self-expression.

Through powerful storytelling and theater, this moving production creates space for voices too often overlooked to be heard, celebrated, and shared with the community.

This event is part of the Linda Plaut Festival of the Arts sponsored by Spark Newton in collaboration with the City of Newton. Admission is free. More info here: https://sparknewton.org/event/newton-theatre-company-monologue-project/

Many thanks to everyone who attended our Red, White, and Blue Rooftop Parade Party yesterday. More than 200 people joined us to enjoy fresh popcorn, popsicles, ice cream, and live music by the Love Dogs Trio on the Cooper Center deck.

We also had sensory experiences for children, provided by Little Beats, and a special guest – Bluey, who danced, jumped, and spun around, inspiring people of all ages to kick up their heels, both inside, on our third floor, and on the deck.

Attendees had a fabulous rooftop view of the 250th Parade of Service Parade as it moved down Walnut Street.

We even had an unexpected visit from Pat Patriot, who stopped by after leading a football clinic at Newton North and watching the parade.

Thank you to all who attended! If you missed the party, we hope to see you next year!
