Hampton Township Fire & Rescue

We are a 100% volunteer organization providing professional fire, rescue, and EMS services to the town and surrounding communities. Klein. All of them were blue.

Located in Sussex County, New Jersey and founded in March 1999, the Hampton Township Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department officially started responding to fire calls in January 2000 under the direction of Chief J. In May 2000 the department moved into it's new Fire House on Halsey Road where it housed three emergency vehicles. The department has a number of vehicles in service which include a 2000 E

-One 1250 GPM Pumper (48-61), a 2000 E-One 3000 gallon/1250 GPM Pumper Tanker (48-71), and in February 2001 the department received a 2001 Spartan E-One Pumper with cab over (48-62). Capable of carrying 1000 gallons of water and pumping at 1250 GPM, this truck can carry 6 firefighters. In 2003 The HTVFD purchased 48-60, a used Ford Explorer equipped for Incident command. Soon after came 48-51 a Med Tec Ambulance which is staffed by our highly trained first responders and EMTs. That was soon followed by 48-52. In 2004 the department purchased 48-75 which is our rescue truck. It has all the necessary tools, and it is staffed by firefighters trained and certified in the use of extrication tools. Over recent years a number of changes have taken place. In 2009 the department replaced their 1996 freightliner with a Heavy Rescue Truck a 2008 Spartan/Furion built specifically for rescue. The truck is dedicated to the Memory of Deputy Chief Danny Rumsey who we lost in 2008. With a membership of more than 45 firefighters, fire police, EMTs and EMRs the department is very capable of meeting the needs of township residents and neighboring communities.

It is with deep sadness to the Hampton Township Fire and Rescue to hear of the passing of Ex Chief Alan “AD” Delea of the Sandyston Township Fire Department

For 52 years, AD was more than just a member of Sandyston fire department, he was a mentor to Sussex County. Whether responding to calls, sharing stories around the firehouse, or mentoring younger members, AD left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Serving as chief from 1983 to 2008, he lead Sandyston through many years of growth and change with dedication and wisdom. AD was also very involved in the planning, preparation and construction of the current firehouse, helping turn a vision for the future into a reality. That firehouse continues to serve the department and community today. Beyond the title of Chief, AD will be remembered for his friendship, sense of humor, and the genuine care he had for his community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Incident: Structure Fire
Date: 5/13/2026
Time: 17:15
Location: 42 Route 519

At the above date and time, Sussex County 911 Center received a report of a possible fire at the above location. Chiefs 48-1 and 48-2 marked up responding within one minute of dispatch.

Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke showing from Division 3 of a four-story residential structure. Based on conditions, a second alarm was transmitted. Due to reports of possible occupants still inside the building, Deputy 48-2 entered the structure with a water can to begin searching for occupants and locate the seat of the fire. Shortly after entry, all occupants were confirmed to be safely outside the structure.

36 Ladder 2, while just clearing another call in their primary area, marked up immediately and took the first-due position, followed by 36 Tower. 48 Tanker arrived and tied into 36 Ladder 2 to establish and maintain water supply operations while 27 Engine laid over 600 feet of supply line to support the incident. Crews from 36 Ladder 2 advanced an attack line to Division 3 and met up with 48-2 to extinguish the fire. Crews operating from the tower performed roof ventilation operations.

As additional companies from Fredon, Branchville, Andover, Frankford, Stillwater, and Byram arrived on scene, crews assisted with overhaul operations, securing utilities, and checking for extension.

Newton, Fredon, and Hampton EMS provided firefighter rehabilitation on scene.

Special thanks to the New Jersey State Police, Sussex County Fire Coordinators, Sussex County Fire Marshal’s Office, Hardyston, and Ogdensburg for assisting on scene and covering the township during the incident.

Units operated on scene for approximately three hours before returning to service. The incident was turned over to the Hampton Township Fire Prevention Office and Sussex County Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.

Time: 6:40
Location: Route 206 at Walmart Entrance
Incident: Accident with 1 Trapped

At approximately 6:40 Sussex County Sheriffs 911 Center received several 9-1-1 calls regarding an accident with an occupant trapped at 206 and the entrance to Walmart. Due to the location of the incident, Newton Stillwater Fredon and Hampton were dispatched. Shortly after dispatch Chief 48-1 arrived and confirmed the same. Newton Squad 3 what was the first arriving Rescue and took on the job of extrication. 48 Engine 2 and 48-2 responded to the landing zone at the upper field at Walmart. Stillwater fire and Fredon Fire assisted on scene. After Newton Squad 3 extricated the patient, Fredon BLS 27-51 and MICU 53 transported to the LZ.
Atlantic BLS Transported the patient of the second vehicle to the local medical center.

Atlantic Air 1 transported 1 to the regional trauma center. Units operated for approximately 1 hour before returning to service. The scene was turned over to New Jersey State police for further investigation.
