As a reminder, you are only allowed to burn NATURAL VEGETATION. Burning household trash, manufactured wood, etc. is not permitted.

There is an increased risk of fire danger this afternoon. Burn laws make it illegal to burn throughout much of the day. Even where the law allows for burning late this afternoon, it is discouraged.

At 10:55 this morning, Newton VFD was dispatched for the residential structure fire on Collins Fork. Engine 80 went enroute shortly after dispatched, shortly followed by Tanker 82 and Battalion 8. A member arrived on scene in his personal vehicle and advised of a fully involved structure. We would like to thank Clover VFD, Spencer VFD, Reedy VFD, and Upper West Fork VFD for responding to provide additional manpower and tankers.

At approximately 2:20pm, shortly after returning to station from the structure fire, Newton VFD was requested as mutual aid to Clay VFD for a trailer fire on Maysel Laurel Ridge. Engine 80, Tanker 82, and Battalion 8 all responded and assisted on scene.

02/02/2026

Just before 2 this afternoon, Newton VFD was dispatched with automatic aid from Clover VFD for the commercial structure fire on Clay Rd in Newton. Engine 80 arrived and found that there had been a fire in the eaves on the front of the structure but was out and Clover was cancelled enroute. A water can was used to finish cooling any remaining hot spots.

It’s that time of year again! Starting October 1st, the fall fire season starts and burn laws go into effect. No burning until after 5pm and it must be out by 7am the following morning. You are also only permitted to burn natural vegetation, such as brush. See below for further details.

Just before 7:40pm yesterday, we were requested for mutual to the Town of Clay VFD for the commercial structure fire. Engine 80 and Tanker 82 responded and assisted with water supply operations. We worked alongside departments and agencies from 4 counties to bring the fire under control.
