Good morning,

Bottom Line:

There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe weather across all of our area for Saturday, January 3, 2026. The main threats include the possibility of damaging wind gusts of 40-60 mph, hail, and a tornado or two.

Overview:

A cold front swings through the Southeast on Saturday, bringing with it the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms. Damaging wind gusts and hail are the primary concerns, but a tornado or two cannot be ruled out at this time. The general timing of the storms is Saturday morning into the afternoon for areas west of the Flint and Apalachicola Rivers and late morning into the afternoon for those to the east. There remains some uncertainty as to ultimate coverage of storms on Saturday, but, as of this morning, there is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of Severe Weather for isolated strong to severe storms.

Good morning,

Bottom Line:

There is a Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) over Central Georgia and a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) over the rest of the CWA for Excessive Rainfall today.

Overview:

A slow moving cold front approaching the region will bring numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. These storms will be slow moving and have the potential to produce heavy rainfall. The WPC has highlighted the CWA in a Marginal risk with a Slight risk for our Central Georgia counties. It is possible that 2-3 inches of rainfall could accumulate with some locations receiving up to 5 inches where training storms occur. Some of the heavy rain threat may also continue into Saturday across south Georgia and the Florida Big Bend.

There will be an Extreme Heat Watch in East Central Georgia from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday. Be prepared for Heat Advisories to be issued in western and northern parts of Georgia as the heat intensifies on Monday and Tuesday (including the Atlanta Metro).

Unusually high risk of heat related illnesses, particularly for those engaging in outdoor activities, vulnerable populations (those who are pregnant, have chronic disease, elderly, and children) and pets. Temperatures will struggle to drop below 80°F each night, increasing the risk for heat-related illnesses for anyone without access to air conditioning.

Stay tuned to forecast updates including advisories and warnings from your local National Weather Service office and reliable media outlets through this week. Visit https://gema.georgia.gov/plan-prepare/storms-disasters/extreme-heat to prepare now.

Good Morning Partners,

Bottom Line:

An extended period of dangerous to life threatening heat will build across the area beginning this weekend through much of next week. Highs are forecast in the upper 90s to lower 100s each day with the hottest days being Sunday through Wednesday with widespread highs in the lower 100s possible. This will drive heat indices up above Heat Advisory criteria (index values of 108F+) with some areas requiring Extreme Heat Warnings (index values of 113F+). The potential reaching heat index values of 108F+ is 80 percent and the potential for heat index values of 113F+ is 60 percent.

Overview:

Deep layer high pressure will build across the area this weekend through mid week next week, before shifting westward as a cold front sags south along the eastern Seaboard late next week. Sinking air aloft will reduce rain chances, especially later this weekend into mid week offering little to no relief to the heat. Highs in the middle to upper 90s Saturday will give way to widespread upper 90s to lower 100s Sunday through Wednesday. Combined with high afternoon humidity values, this sets the stage for dangerous to life threatening heat with heat indices of 105-112F common Sunday increasing to in excess of 113F+ in some locations Monday through mid week. Overnight lows will not offer much relief with readings in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees.

There is a Major HeatRisk for our area beginning Sunday with an Extreme HeatRisk for portions of the area Monday through Wednesday. A Major HeatRisk means that the heat is dangerous to anyone who does not have proper hydration or adequate cooling with little to no nighttime relief. An Extreme HeatRisk is for long duration, extreme heat with no overnight relief affecting anyone without cooling and hydration as well as health systems, industries, and infrastructure

Good morning Partners,

Bottom Line:

One last afternoon of dangerous heat is forecast for the entire area today. Later, widely scattered storms will develop, and a brief severe storm cannot be ruled out.

Overview:

The upper-level ridge that has controlled the weather pattern over the last several days is beginning to move out. However, before it does, one more day of dangerous heat is expected. Heat indices are forecast to peak around 108°F to 112°F across the area, with isolated locations possibly hitting 115°F. Due to the high probability of heat indices exceeding 108°F, a Heat Advisory is in effect for the entire forecast area from late this morning into the late afternoon.

This heat will provide ample instability for more widespread shower and storm development compared to the past several days. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a strong storm or two could become severe this afternoon. The primary concern is isolated, damaging wind gusts. The area with potential for strong storms is highlighted in green on the attached Storm Prediction Center graphic, which indicates a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms this afternoon

Good morning,

Bottom Line:

Another day of dangerous heat is expected across much of the area today. Heat Advisories are in effect for much of southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia as well as all of the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend.

Overview:

High pressure begins to slide off to our west today, but the heat continues with a little bit more humidity today. Highs across the area will be in the middle to upper 90s. Heat index values will reach 105-112 across the area. Some isolated spots near the Emerald Coast may see heat index values exceed 112.

A Heat Advisory is in effect late this morning for the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend as well as much of southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia. It's possible we may need another Heat Advisory on Tuesday, but it's a bit more uncertain given increasing chances for showers and storms.

There is a Major to Extreme HeatRisk today across the area. The Extreme HeatRisk means that a rare and/or long-duration heat with little to no overnight relief affects anyone without effective cooling and/or hydration. In this case, we have a longer-duration heat with lows in the upper 70s to lower 80s, providing little to no relief at night. For more information on the HeatRisk, visit https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/heatrisk/. Attached are maps of today's HeatRisk and what each category means.

Increasing onshore winds and 2 foot surf will result in a high risk of rip currents along the Panhandle beaches today

Bottom Line:

Dangerous heat will build across the area and continue into early next week. A Heat Advisory has been issued for many of our Florida counties as well as parts of south central Georgia.

Overview:

High pressure will build across the area this weekend before moving away early next week. This will reduce our rain chances over the weekend, but also increase our temperatures. Highs through Tuesday will climb into the mid to upper 90s for many areas. The combination of these hot temperatures and high humidity will result in dangerous heat. Heat index values of 105-112 will be common the next several days for many areas.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for this afternoon across the eastern Florida Panhandle, all of the Big Bend, and up into Brooks and Lowndes Counties in Georgia. These areas have the highest chances of seeing dangerous heat index values of 108 or greater.

There is also a Major HeatRisk for much of our area during the next few days. A Major HeatRisk means that the heat is dangerous to anyone who does not have proper hydration or adequate cooling with little to no nighttime relief.
