June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month

Today, the Newton Police Department joins communities across the country in recognizing National Gun Violence Awareness Day and honoring those impacted by gun violence.

Preventing gun violence starts with each of us. Responsible firearm ownership, secure storage practices, and open conversations about safety can help protect our families, friends, and neighbors.

If you own a firearm:
🔒 Keep it locked and secured when not in use
🔒 Store ammunition separately
🔒 Prevent access by children and unauthorized individuals

By working together and promoting safe firearm practices, we can help create a safer community for everyone.

For information on gun and firearm laws or licensing, contact NPD 617-796-2100

E-Bike & Bike Safety Reminder 🚴⚡

As the weather gets warmer, more e-bikes, bikes and scooters are out on the roadways and sidewalks.

Riders are reminded to:
• Wear a helmet
• Obey all traffic laws and signals
• Ride at safe speeds
• Stay alert and avoid distractions
• Use lights and reflective gear when riding at night

Parents — take time to check in with kids and teens about safe riding habits, following the rules of the road, and staying aware of traffic and pedestrians.

Drivers — please share the road and watch for cyclists.

Let’s work together to keep everyone safe!
