The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office hosted Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training last week, a five-day/40-hour course aimed at improving law enforcement responses to mental health crises.

CIT Training provides law enforcement officers, mental health professionals, and advocates with essential knowledge, skills, and connections to local resources that allow them to respond to individuals in crisis in a manner that reduces the need for force and minimizes the potential for injury. The course focuses on helping first responders better understand mental illness, emphasizes de-escalation techniques and crisis management, and how to connect individuals with appropriate resources.

Prosecutor Daniel M. Perez would like to thank the Chiefs of Police for giving their officers the opportunity to attend the training and local service providers for their enthusiasm and participation in making the training a success. On April 17, Prosecutor Perez attended a ceremony to present certificates to the graduates.
