Sheriff Michael F. Strada would like to thank and congratulate all of the runners who took part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run this morning.

Early this morning, members of the Sussex County Sheriff's Office proudly laced up their running shoes to participate in the annual New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey!
Our officers hit the pavement alongside our fellow Sussex County law enforcement partners from the Newton and Andover Township Police Departments as well as the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office and many incredible young runners representing Special Olympics New Jersey .

From the steps of the historic Sussex County Courthouse through downtown Newton and finishing in Andover Township near the Sparta Township border, every mile run was a step toward a more inclusive world.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is all about coming together as a community to raise funds, spread awareness, and cheer on the inspiring athletes of the Special Olympics. We are incredibly honored to represent Sussex County in this statewide tradition and to help carry the "Flame of Hope" toward the Summer Games!

Thank you to everyone who came out to wave, cheer us on, and support this amazing cause.

Sheriff Michael F. Strada would like to remember and honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have secured the freedoms we enjoy every day. We owe an enduring debt of gratitude to those who gave their lives, and to the families who carry their memory forward.

As we gather with loved ones this holiday, let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and never forget those who answered the call to serve. On behalf of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office, we thank our fallen heroes and honor their legacy.

Today marks a truly special milestone as we kick off Day 1 of the 30th Anniversary Police Unity Tour!

Sheriff Michael F. Strada and the men and women of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office want to wish a safe and steady journey to all the riders embarking on this 300+ mile trek to Washington, D.C. this morning.

We are incredibly proud of our own Sheriff's Officer Mike Weber who is once again riding alongside our brothers and sisters, both active and retired, from Law Enforcement agencies throughout Sussex County. Watching "Team Sussex" gear up and head out this morning regardless of weather conditions is a powerful reminder of the bond shared by our local law enforcement family.

Since its inception in 1997, the mission of the Police Unity Tour has remained the same: "We Ride For Those Who Died." As the riders pedal through the miles today, they carry the names and legacies of fallen heroes with them, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.

One of those names is particularly poignant this year as Team Sussex is riding in remembrance of Lt. Mike Monaco (Retired - Newton PD) who lost a valiant battle with cancer earlier this year. A perennial rider on the Police Unity Tour, Mike rode for many years and his absence will be felt immensely. Indeed, in his honor, Mike's bicycle is being transported down and will be ridden into the Law Enforcement Memorial on the final day of the Tour by longtime friend and fellow Team Sussex member, Bill Moyle (Retired - Sparta PD).

To all of the riders participating:
Stay hydrated, stay safe on the roads, and know that your community and your colleagues are behind you every pedal of the way. We look forward to seeing you arrive at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in D.C.!

Godspeed and safe travels!

The Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Crimestoppers Organization held its annual Spring Fundraiser Dinner on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the beautiful Farmstead Golf & Country Club.

Sussex County Sheriff Michael Strada served as the emcee for the evening and addressed attendees regarding the continued success of the Crimestoppers program. Sheriff Strada discussed the numerous tips received throughout 2025 and how those tips have directly assisted law enforcement agencies in solving crimes and protecting the residents of Sussex County. He also thanked the many sponsors, supporters, attendees, and the dedicated Crimestoppers Commissioners for their continued hard work and commitment.

Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Staff Hilary Manser addressed the attendees regarding the recent “Dog Abandonment” investigation involving approximately 50 dogs that were abandoned in four separate locations throughout Sussex County. She emphasized the critical role that the Crimestoppers program played in the investigation. She explained how one anonymous tip can truly make a difference.

Sheriff Strada also presented awards recognizing individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Crimestoppers organization. Awards were presented to Sabine Watson, Dawn Flanders, Craig Thompson, and Jeffrey Parrott for their dedication, leadership, and continued support of our Crimestoppers Organization.

“The success of Crimestoppers is directly tied to the support of our community,” Sheriff Strada stated. “Every anonymous tip has the potential to save lives, solve crimes, and make Sussex County a safer place for everyone. We are extremely grateful for the continued support from our residents, businesses, and community partners.”

The Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Crimestoppers Organization will pay up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of criminals. All tips remain completely anonymous, and tipsters are never asked to provide their name.

Anyone wishing to provide information may call 973-300-CRIME (2746) or visit www.sussexcountysheriff.com to submit an anonymous tip online.

Groundbreaking Held for Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Pole Barn and Office Facility in Frankford

Sussex County officials gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the start of construction for the new Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Pole Barn and Office Facility in Frankford, New Jersey.

Participating in the ceremony were Sussex County Sheriff Michael Strada, Commissioner Director Jill Space, Commissioner Chris Carney, Commissioner Dave Silverthorne, Commissioner and Alan Henderson, along with County Administrator Christina Marks, County Engineer William Koppenaal, Facilities Management Director Keith Nelson, and members of their respective staffs.

The Sussex County Board of County Commissioners authorized the use of funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to support the construction of both a pole barn storage facility and an office building. These new structures will enhance the capabilities of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office while also supporting the operations of the Office of Emergency Management.

Commissioner Director Jill Space, on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, stated:

“This project reflects our continued commitment to strengthening public safety infrastructure across Sussex County. By utilizing ARPA funding responsibly, we are investing in facilities that will improve efficiency, coordination, and preparedness for both the Sheriff’s Office and our Office of Emergency Management. This is a long-term investment in the safety and well-being of our residents.”

Sheriff Michael Strada added:

“The construction of this new pole barn and office facility is a major step forward for the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office. These improvements will allow us to better store equipment, streamline operations, and enhance our ability to respond to emergencies. We are grateful to the Board of County Commissioners for their support and commitment to public safety.”
