My name is Jonathan Barnes and I am running for Register of Deeds 2020 in Catawba County, North Carolina as a conservative Republican. A little bit of background about me is that I was born in the year 1973. I was raised with Christian beliefs. I went to ACHS and graduated with a diploma. I got my Associates of Science Degree in Paralegal. I have lived in Catawba County since 1996 and I have to say that this is my hometown. I have over 10 years of Real Estate Law experience. A proud military Veteran. I was also a Courtroom clerk for Deputy Clerk of Superior Court for several years. Over the years of working hard in the Register of Deeds office I became a Senior Deputy Register of Deeds Supervisor in Catawba County. I am married to Robin with 3 beautiful children: Allison, Keegan and McKinna. I believe that elected public officials should be in their office during office hours and be held accountable. Publicly elected officials should answer and assist the public with the best customer service as possible. If elected as the Register of Deeds, I promise to greet and serve you in person in office. 1. What do you think makes you the best candidate for this office?

I have years of experience as a Sr Deputy of Vital Records Supervisor in the Register of Deeds. I managed employees and was the beginning point of work that was distributed to others for processing, including Birth and Death Certificates, Marriage Licenses, Military Discharges, Notary Commissions. I have a vast knowledge of real estate due to my background as a paralegal in law offices. I know the laws that apply to operations and processes that take place in the office. I also have experience as a deputy Clerk of Court, which ties in with the records we keep and their requirements. I maintained an excellent work attendance in the office during the very long absence of the current Register of Deeds.
