The Baker County Sheriff’s Office was just notified of another scam. This one involves the scammers pretending to be from Amazon. The lady was transferred several times and ended up talking to a man that identified himself as a DEA officer and even sent her a picture of his badge. Scared her with the threats of money laundering charges and with warrants that were going to be issued. The rest is typical. She had to pay money to take care of the charges, wasn’t allowed to get off the phone with him until the money was sent, and was told not to tell anyone. This particular scammer requested she mail him the requested money to an address in California.

Just to reiterate, law enforcement will never call you and request money to dismiss charges or warrants. If you receive this type of call, you can come into the Sheriff’s Office while you are talking to him or come to us BEFORE you send money. I even had one individual do a three way call while the scammer was on the line. He hung up very quickly! Our office number is 229-734-3003.

The Baker County Sheriff's Office houses inmates at the Mitchell County Jail, and our numbers are included in their report. However, by law, we are still required to publish our quarterly jail report, which will reflect zero. Our actual numbers for the second quarter of 2026 are as follows:

Incidents and self-initiated activity: 1,188

Arrests: 18.

**Attention** SCAM ALERT

If you are contacted by someone claiming to be a deputy with the Baker County Sheriff’s Office and you have any concerns, call the Baker County Sheriff’s Office at 229-734-3002. We will never ask for money over the phone or money to drop a warrant. If you receive any calls that are suspicious in any way we encourage you to reach out to us.

Recently, citizens of Baker County have been receiving calls from Rhines, Georgia. The name given is Officer or Deputy Williams. He will be asking for money and you are not allowed to get off the phone with him during the whole interaction until the money is transferred to him. THIS IS A SCAM. Do not give him money. Call our office if you need verification. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office does not ask for money to clear a warrant nor do we call you to pay a traffic citation or pay money for a missed court date. We do not ask for money.

Please talk to your families that do not have access to this message and let them know what is going on. Share this message so that we can get the word out to our residents.

Please keep in mind that there will be no parking along the sides of state routes, including S.R. 37 in front of Baker County Schools and S.R. 91.
