The City of Newport Public Works Department will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day. Residential garbage collection will run on the following adjusted schedule: Monday routes will be collected Tuesday, May 26. Tuesday routes will be collected Wednesday, May 27. Regular residential garbage pickup will resume Thursday and Friday on the normal schedule. Please help spread the word and have containers placed out by the usual pickup time.
Step back in time and experience history firsthand as the Clara Barton: Angel of the Battlefield arrives in Newport. On display through June 23 at Tech Depot Gallery, this traveling exhibit on loan from the National Museum of Civil War Medicine tells the powerful story of Clara Barton, a pioneering nurse who risked her life on the front lines of the Civil War and later founded the American Red Cross. The display will be available for viewing Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Friday’s from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Through engaging panels and historical insights, visitors will discover her incredible impact on battlefield medicine and humanitarian efforts that still influence care today.
Join the Newport Community Garden Initiative for a wonderful day of health, wellness, and community on May 28, 2026. Start your morning with “Brunch & Butterflies” from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., where you can relax, enjoy a delicious brunch, and take in the beauty of the garden. Then stay for “Screening in the Springtime” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Flagship Garden, located at 626 Remmel Avenue. Jackson County Wellness and Screening will offer free health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and select cancer screenings. Artists are encouraged to register now for the Delta Arts Festival coming to Downtown Newport on June 5 and 6. This exciting two-day celebration will feature art, live music, delicious food, and fun for the whole family. The festival will take place Friday, June 5, from noon to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Community members are invited to come enjoy the creativity and energy of the arts while supporting talented artists from across the region. Join Tech Depot on June 10th for an informative session designed to help businesses better understand government contracting opportunities. Arkansas APEX Accelerator Procurement Counselor, Kimberly Randle, will present “Marketing Your Business to the Government” from 10:00–11:30 a.m. The training will cover best practices for understanding government buyers’ needs, communicating your company’s value proposition, vendor registration sites, certifications, market research sources, and marketing tools specific to the government marketplace. Following the presentation, APEX Office Hours will be available from 12:00–3:00 p.m. for one-on-one assistance with government contracting questions.
