Newport Police Department Arrests Four in Major Drug Bust Following Investigation

NEWPORT — The Newport Police Department arrested four people on drug possession and distribution charges as the result of a month-long investigation.

In the early morning of Tuesday, June 9, the Newport Police Department executed a search warrant that led to the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of 57.73 grams of co***ne cut with fentanyl and over $4,500. The bust is the result of a month-long investigation led by Newport Police Officer Andrew Gonyaw.

MATTHEW PRUE, AGE 46, of NEWPORT, was arrested and charged with:
Sale of a Regulated Drug (Co***ne)
Trafficking of a Regulated Drug (Fentanyl)
Possession of a Regulated Drug (Co***ne)
Possession of a Regulated Drug (Depressant, Stimulant, and Narcotic Drugs)
Criminal Threatening

JENNIFER SANVILLE, AGE 40, of NEWPORT, was arrested and charged with:
Sale of a Regulated Drug (Co***ne)
Trafficking of a Regulated Drug (Fentanyl)
Possession of a Regulated Drug (Co***ne)
Possession of a Regulated Drug (Depressant, Stimulant, and Narcotic Drugs)
Habitual Criminals (Two Counts)
Aggravated Assault
Criminal Threatening

STANLEY CROWE, AGE 52, of NEWPORT, was arrested and charged with:
Dispensing of a Regulated Drug (Co***ne)
Possession of a Regulated Drug (Co***ne)
Possession of a Regulated Drug (Depressant, Stimulant, and Narcotic Drugs)
2nd Degree Unlawful Restraint and Interference with access to Emergency Services

TRINA STETSON, AGE 47, of NEWPORT, was arrested and charged with:
Knowingly Permitting Sale of a Regulated Drug (Co***ne)(Fentanyl) in a Dwelling
Possession of a Regulated Drug (Co***ne)
Possession of a Regulated Drug (Depressant, Stimulant, and Narcotic Drugs)

PRUE, SANVILLE, CROWE, and STETSON were each arrested on a number of drug possession, trafficking, and sales charges. PRUE, SANVILLE, and CROWE are also facing charges related to separate investigations.

SANVILLE was held without bail and issued Conditions of Release. PRUE and CROWE were held on a bail of $25,000, and CROWE was lodged by Probation and Parole, as he was found in violation of his parole. STETSON was released from custody with a citation to appear in court at a later date.

They will be arraigned in Orleans District Court on Wednesday afternoon.

It’s that time of year — ATV Season officially begins today!

Chief Travis Bingham and the Newport Police Department welcome riders back to Newport for another great season. As you head out, please remember that helmets are required for all ATV operators and passengers.

Be sure to review the attached City ATV Ordinance so you’re up to date on local rules and requirements.

Our Newport Officers will be out on patrol throughout the season, actively enforcing ATV ordinances and traffic laws to help keep everyone safe.

National Police Week May 10th - May 16th

Each May, our nation comes together to honor the courage, sacrifice and dedication of law enforcement officers. Originally established by presidential proclamation President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th and a week of observances recognizing officers who given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage.

Newport Police Department Officer Joseph Manogue, was killed in the line of duty on September 26th, 1917. Officer Manogue was shot and killed while assisting US Immigration officers with an arrest.

Events are centered in Washington, D.C. and include the Candlelight Vigil hosted by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S) National Survivors Conference and the cornerstone of the week, the Fraternal Order of Police National Peace Officers Memorial Service on May 15th at the West Front of the United States Capitol.

​National Police week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice and family.
