🌟 Women’s History Month Spotlight: Catissa Head 🌟

In honor of , we’re celebrating Catissa Head, Executive Director of Coastal Community Action, Inc. (CCA), for her inspiring leadership and dedication to the community action movement.

Catissa credits her mother—a civil rights advocate—as her greatest influence, teaching her the importance of speaking out against injustice.

“You have an obligation to correct where you see wrong,” she says, a lesson that continues to guide her advocacy for equity and policy change.

While serving as HR Director in 2017, Catissa was asked to step into agency leadership as executive director and it became an opportunity for her to build trust within the community, stabilize agency operations, and strengthen programs in a 9-county region of Eastern North Carolina.

As a woman leader, Catissa has faced unconscious bias and pay inequity but continues to confront these challenges with “conversation and facts.”

She is passionate about mentoring and uplifting women in community action, encouraging them to be “Change Makers” and drive impact through bold leadership.

Catissa’s legacy? Leaving CCA stronger than she found it by promoting financial stability beyond grant funding, prioritizing staff wellness, and expanding programs that uplift families and communities.

Shoutout to Catissa Head! 👏

We’re proud of Coastal Community Action's Executive Director, Catissa Head, for representing the Community Action Network in the Coastal Hazards, Equity, Economic Prosperity & Resilience Hub (CHEER). 🌪️🌍

In less than a decade, hurricanes like Harvey, Irma, and Ian have caused over $25 billion in damages each, leaving vulnerable communities stuck in a cycle of devastation. CHEER is working to break that cycle by focusing on resilience, equity, and economic prosperity—key factors often overlooked in disaster recovery efforts.

As a Community Partner, Coastal Community Action shares the perspectives of rural, high-poverty communities impacted by storms. Catissa Head says, “For nearly 60 years, CCA has been breaking barriers to help individuals and families overcome poverty. We remain dedicated to improving lives through advocacy, education, and support.” 💪
