It is a great pleasure and privilege to announce that Laurie Jacobs, Cosmetology Instructor, is NCCC's 'Teacher of the Year'. Laurie was nominated by her peers for her outstanding contributions to the NCCC learning community. She is a true professional in holding not only her students, but herself to the practice of excellence across the dimensions of technical skills, industry standards, business acumen, and the all important communication and confidentiality components.

One of her greatest accomplishments is that the Cosmetology Program is not just a complete experience for students during their secondary years - four years ago under her leadership and guidance, the Program was accredited as a licensed Cosmetology School in Vermont. Students who meet all the program and examination standards, and following graduation, now leave high school with a Vermont Cosmetology License. Twenty-seven students have completed the program in the last four years as fully licensed Cosmetologists. BTW this is a 100% success rate....

NCCC students and staff extend their heartfelt congratulations to Laurie who has been a respected colleague, a beloved teacher and a wellspring of energy and productivity. Her work speaks for itself.

It's been quite the year for the Building Trades East Main/Union Street house project. The house was moved onto a new foundation in Summer 2025 adding an efficiency apartment on the lower level, an expanded entry was added to the first floor of the main house, and after significant work on raising and leveling the bowed ribs of the roof, a new roof is being installed. Students have been trained in OSHA compliant harness safety for roof installation. The weather is finally cooperating and Jeremy Broe, Program Instructor and his crew: Trent Bosley, Logan Ellis, Ryan Farrand, Tucker Gauvin, Jacob Marquis, Cameron Pray, and Cotter Stevens have made serious progress.

FFA (Future Farmers of America) has a proud tradition at NCCC that highlights the importance of agricultural science and natural resources in Vermont. Students recently competed in state competitions that reflect the value of this organization to our students and our community. NCCC is proud to announce the follwing results:

First Place in Dairy Showmanship - Sloan Nelson

Second Place in Dairy Evaluation - Eva Bury, Emiley Farrar, Peyton Fortin and Ava LeBlanc

Second and Third Place Respectively in the Maple Production Career Development Event - Evan Bathalon and Cooper Ruetz

Forth Place in Agricultural Mechanics - Riley Dagesse, Jacob Gregoire, Rob Mixon and Micheal Randall

Just to sweeten the experience the NCCC Natural Resources Program was awarded Best in Class for their 'Dark Color and Robust Taste' maple syrup.

Great work from all the students and thanks to FFA Advisors Emily Dehoff and Meghan Luther, and Tyler Judd, Heavy Equipment Program Instructor for their meticulous and comprehensive preparation.

Yes, it is close to the end of the year, and big thanks from all the adults in the building to Emily Dehoff, Program Instructor, who was the instigator of such a unique learning opportunity - "The NCCC First Annual Dog-less Dog Show". Animal & Environmental Science Students researched the American Kennel Club (AKC) Dog Breed Standards - the official blueprint for over 200 recognized breeds. Students chose a breed, created a scaled replica, drilled down into the breed specifics and then 'showed' their dog. Showing a dog in a competitive arena to evaluate its physical traits and breeding potential is officially called 'conformation'. The competition was intense, the decision was close but one dog rose to 'Best in Show', Waylon, the Basset Hound - handler Grace Patenaude. 'Reserve' was Wookie, the Giant Schnauzer - handler Sloan Nelson.

Thanks to all the handlers: Eva Bury, Emiley Farrar, Peyton Fortin, Gabby Griffith, Mayah LaBounty, Ava LeBlanc, Annie Locke, Sloan Nelson, Grace Patenaude, Alexa Potter, Paige Runne, Krystal Valenti, and Lexie Vinal.

Thank you Don Whipple! NCCC has a great partner - someone who doesn't appear much because he is literally behind the camera. Don has taken thousands of promotional pictures of students and staff at work, hundreds of hours of program video and great drone shots of special events. He puts the color in our world, always looking for the best angle and the most comprehensive shot. His belief and support in Career & Technical Education shines through in every frame.

Congratulations to Ben Warren! He just received word that he successfully passed the Siemens SMSCP Level 1 exam. This is no small feat as it is the culmination of two years of curriculum in the Engineering & Digital Fabrication Program. This certification is a world-class, industry-standard credential focused on the efficient operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of complex modern mechatronic systems. There is only way one to get here - hard work, perseverance and the support of a great instructor - thanks Hazen Converse. Ben has had a busy year functioning as the SkillsUSA State Parliamentarian among many other activities. Ben is off to college to study Engineering and one day work in Biomedical Engineering - anything is possible!

It does take a Village to run a Village! Many residents of the NEK have spent a fun-filled day at Santa's Village as guests but is a rare opportunity to go deeper and get the full story of how this Village functions behind the magic. Business Leadership & Marketing students recently toured operations under the guidance of Christian Gainer, General Manager, who is a member of the close knit family who started Santa's Village in 1953.

This family-run business encompasses career pathways from hospitality and guest services, medical personnel, a number of skilled trades including plumbers, electricians and carpenters, heavy equipment operators, marketing and accounting and more.

Congratulations to David Andrew for receiving the 'ToolBox Award' from the Cars of Yesteryear Car Club at the Annual Transportation Science Technology Car Show & BBQ today. Steve Carpenter, Cars of Yesteryear President and Karen Chitambar, Program Instructor were hard pressed to pick a student this year from a stellar class. David was chosen for his professionalism, strong work ethic and great team work. He is an outstanding student!
