The Kirker-Fischer House

The Kirker-Fischer House ᚢᛅᛚᛅᛋᚴᛁᛅᛚᚠ

our 1886 German Italianate-style home in Newport, Kentucky. The gabled front porch with brick balustrade was likely a mid-century addition.

"This circa 1886 two-and-a-half story Italianate home features stone window hoods and quoins, as well as a bracketed cornice. " - description from the Garden Walk brochure. (pronounced "kirker-fisher")
The Kircher-Fischer Haus, our Italianate style home located in the historic East Row neighborhood, was built in 1886 by Ferdinand Ernst Koblenzer-Dräger (also spelled Dræger), a carpenter, wood car

ver and cabinet maker from Koblenz, Germany for the first owners Elmer Heinrich Kircher and his wife Jena Österman-Kircher (Jennie). Elmer, a teller at the German National Bank (later Lincoln National Bank), and Jennie a clerk and secretary for Cincinnati City Waterworks. In public records their names were later Americanized to "Kirker." In 1914 the house was purchased by Conrad and Mary Fischer, an inspector for a to***co company. Mary lived in the house until 1944. The house was converted into a duplex of single-family apartments after her death, the bottom serving briefly as a law office during the 1960's, then as low-rent housing, and finally restored and refurbished as a single-family home by a Serbian immigrant named Svetlana Dimóvskij in 2008. We acquired the home in 2012 from a Proctor & Gamble holding company and immediately began restoring and embellishing its Victorian-era grandeur. The Kircher-Fischer House has been featured on East Row Garden Club walks in the summer, and on the East Row Victorian Tour of Homes during the Holiday Season.

The Fish Grotto 2021
After a summer of back garden renovation due to the new garage construction, the Fish Grotto experienced a leak which required adding water every couple of days. Today we drained the pond and repairs the leak and should be good me many more years!

The transformation of the upstairs guest bathroom. We changed the colors from gray to period-appropriate Rookwood greens which goes well with the American cherry stain of the wood. We added crowns to add detail.
