NWS WINTER STORM WARNING UPDATE

** Updated as of 7:00 pm on 01/13/24 **



Due to the predicted winter storm, parts of Lincoln County are experiencing hazardous road conditions and widespread power outages.

Keep yourself and household safe:

Avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. Roads may be blocked with fallen debris and public safety responders may not be able to reach you. Some roads are closed: Highway 18 from MP 1 to MP 8 Highway 229 from 101 to Siletz Highway 20 from Newport to Eddyville Debris may continue to fall.

If your power goes out, keep yourself warm:

Wear layers of lightweight, warm clothing. Close blinds or curtains and close off rooms to retain heat. Stuff towels or rags in cracks under doors. Eat and drink to provide energy to your body. Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning from generators, heaters, and cook stoves:

Despite the holiday, we were busily working over the weekend along with the Auxiliary Communication Services (ACS) volunteer group! We all got together on Sunday to complete their annual strategic planning and goal setting. An extra big “thank you” to Mike, Daron, Dean, Doug, Rich, and Randy for donating their valuable time!

30 Years of Watching Out for Lincoln County and You

With this current weather event it seems only appropriate to reflect on how easy it is with today's technology to send notices, keep folks informed and out of harms way.

My predecessor, Mr. Jim Hawley, spent over 30 years advocating and monitoring the weather for the community members of Lincoln County...I've had many a community member personally reflect on their midnight or early morning calls from Mr. Hawley letting them know the current river levels of the Siletz so they could be ready to evacuate if needed.

Jim and his counterpart Mary in the Emergency Management office were quite a team and truly set the bar high for advocating and taking care of our communities before, during and after emergency events.

Here is one of my absolute favorite photo's of Jim, in what is still today, our County Emergency Operations Center, where he worked his magic on the telephone lines keeping everyone safe and informed.
