If you've been by lately, you might have noticed some work going on at this curious little building next to Nies. "The Little Building That Could" was built in the 1890's as Clem Weir's Barber shop. It was in sad shape when we purchased it and was leaning backwards quite severely. Check back here over the next few days to see what's going on!

Newport’s Buena Vista Historic District has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the National Park Service has announced. Congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard on this nomination. This is a major milestone for West Newport and the city as a whole.

Newport’s Buena Vista Historic District has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the National Park Service has announced. Notable achievement both because of the diversity and concentration of historic resources included in the boundary, and a new housing type discovered last year through the survey process dubbed the “Northern Kentucky Shotgun” - featuring a front elevation with two windows facing the street, rather than the traditional historic shotgun configuration with one window and a main entrance. Exciting discovery! And now building owners throughout the district can qualify for state and federal historic rehab tax credits

While looking through the Williams City Directory for 1927-28, we discovered our building was a grocery store run by William Ahlers at that time. From 1938-1970 it was Henry Rose's shoe repair. Allen Nie took over in 1971.
