Today was a great opportunity for our cadets to put their training into action during an educational scenario day. They worked through challenging situations, applied what they’ve learned, supported one another, and continued building the confidence and skills needed to serve their communities.

A big thank-you to everyone who helped make today possible and to our cadets for their hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the program.

Our cadets are now in Week Five of the six-week Vermont Correctional Academy and continuing to build the skills and knowledge they’ll need for a successful career in corrections.

This week, cadets are learning the non-lethal use-of-force techniques designed to help them safely and effectively manage challenging situations.

With just one week remaining, the cadets are nearing the finish line of their academy training. We’re proud of the hard work, dedication, and professionalism they continue to demonstrate each week.

International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31

Today, Northern State Correctional Facility joins communities around the world in recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day.

We remember those who have lost their lives to overdose, support the families and loved ones left behind, and recognize the individuals working toward recovery and a healthier future.

In corrections, we see firsthand how substance use can affect individuals, families, and communities. Prevention, education, compassion, and access to support can save lives.

Today is a reminder that behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story. Together, we can help reduce stigma, encourage people to seek help, and work toward safer, healthier communities.
