🎉 was OUTSIDE! 💙🎈

We had an amazing time participating in the 2026 Southeast Community Day Parade & Festival! From marching and line dancing down Jefferson Avenue to waving, laughing, and connecting with our neighbors along the route, it was a wonderful day of community, togetherness,candy, and FUN! 🎺🥁✨

One of our favorite parts of community outreach is simply getting out into the community we serve. We loved seeing so many familiar faces, meeting new ones, and sharing a little spirit along the way.

A special thank you to our staff members, family, friends, and honorary marchers who joined us and helped make the day even more memorable. 💙

And a BIG thank you to Andrew Shannon Events for hosting another fantastic celebration and bringing our community together for such a great day! 👏🏾🎉

We came. We marched. We danced. We waved. And yes, we took plenty of pictures! 📸😂

HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM !

Today, we pause to recognize the generations of hardworking Americans whose dedication, skill, and service have helped build and strengthen our communities and our country.

Labor Day has been celebrated for more than 130 years. The first Labor Day observance was held in New York City on September 5, 1882, and in 1894, Congress officially established the first Monday in September as a federal holiday honoring the contributions and achievements of American workers.

From educators and healthcare professionals to first responders, tradespeople, small business owners, public servants, service workers, and every person whose work keeps our communities moving forward, today we celebrate YOU. 👏🏽❤️🤍💙

Here in Newport News, we are especially grateful for the dedicated workforce that serves our residents, supports our local businesses, cares for our neighborhoods, and helps our city thrive each and every day.

We were honored to have them as a partner for the Commissioners & Cans Food and Fund Drive supporting Sarah Webb - York County Commissioner of the Revenue as she supports the York County community.

Commissioners & Cans Food and Fund Drive had wrapped up, but we support our statewide food banks (especially our regional organizations Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore) every day in their mission to ensure all Virginians are safe from hunger and food insecurity. Please support a local foodbank or pantry in honor of National Foodbank Day and Hunger Action Month.

It's National Food Bank Day, and we’re celebrating the power of working together.

Across Virginia, seven regional food banks come together through the Federation of Virginia Food Banks to strengthen hunger relief across the Commonwealth. Together, we distribute nutritious food, support local communities, advocate for policies that improve food access, and work to build a stronger, healthier Virginia.

Collectively, Virginia’s food banks distribute more than 10 million pounds of food each month to communities across the Commonwealth. That impact is only possible because of the strength of our statewide network and the many people who come together to support our neighbors.

Today, we’re proud to stand alongside our fellow food banks across Virginia and celebrate what we can accomplish when we work together.

Leadership does not require a particular title. It happens wherever someone chooses to step up, serve, give, and make a difference. And this Commissioners & Cans Food and Fund Drive season, Newport News showed up! 🙌

As we close out our 2026 campaign, sends a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of the community leaders, organizations, congregations, businesses, and neighbors who joined us in supporting the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

We are especially grateful to School Board Chair Dr. Terri Lorraine Best, the congregation of New Beech Grove Baptist Church, Virginia Tech Newport News Center, the congregation of International Kingdom Life Church, former Councilwoman Sharon Scott and the many community members who gave food, funds, time, encouragement, and support throughout our campaign. 💙

Whether you lead from elected office, the workplace, the church, your neighborhood, or simply by being the person willing to step forward when your community needs you, YOU helped us make a difference.

And our work is not finished.

We are continuing our celebration with a special thank you to Newport News School Board Member Sheena Harris for supporting our 2026 Commissioners & Cans Food and Fund Drive! 💙

We are grateful to Mrs. Harris for joining in supporting the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and helping us raise awareness of food insecurity right here in our community.

As a leader serving Newport News students and families, her participation is a wonderful reminder that fighting hunger is truly a community effort.

And the work does not stop with the end of our campaign! September is Hunger Action Month, and we hope our entire community will continue to support, donate, volunteer, and engage with the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank throughout the month and beyond. 🥫💙

🎬⚡ COR FAST FIVE: ONE LAST ROUND! ⚡🎬

We’re closing out our COR Fast Five series with YCP intern Carlihn Robertson! 💙💚

Carlihn, a student at Newport News Public Schools Menchville High School, spent his summer with at our Satellite Office, where he had the opportunity to learn the ropes and shadow one of our fan-favorite team members, Jack! 🌟

It was such a pleasure having Carlihn as part of our office this summer. We enjoyed watching him learn, grow, and experience firsthand what it means to serve the citizens of Newport News. We hope this isn’t goodbye, because we would love to welcome him back next summer! ☀️

Our YCP summer is over and the school year is off to a successful start. We’re wishing Carlihn and ALL of our amazing interns a wonderful school year as they return to their high schools and colleges. Keep learning, keep growing, keep leading, and know that you’ll always have friends cheering you on at ! 🎓📚✨

And of course, before we let Carlihn go, he had to take on the COR FAST FIVE! ⚡🎤

Leadership means showing up for your community, and we are sending a big thank you to City of Newport News, VA - Government Marcellus L. Harris III NN City Councilor - North District and Constituent Services Representative Tahnisha Clark for supporting our 2026 Commissioners & Cans Food and Fund Drive!

Tahnisha stopped by on behalf of Councilman Harris to help us support the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and our neighbors throughout the Peninsula. We appreciate them answering our call to action and joining fellow Newport News leaders in the fight against hunger!

September is Hunger Action Month, so the work continues! We encourage our community to keep supporting, donating, volunteering, and engaging with the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank as they work every day to help our neighbors facing food insecurity. 💙
