Congratulations to NNSO's Sgt. A. Hodges and the National Polygraph Academy Class #37 who successfully completed the Basic Polygraph Examiner Training Program at the Samarcand Training Academy in Jackson Springs, N.C.!

This 10-week, 400-hour program provides students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to professionally administer and defend polygraph examinations for law enforcement agencies in support of criminal and administrative investigations, as well as pre-employment and security examinations.

With this newly acquired expertise, Sgt. A. Hodges will play a vital role in enhancing the NNSO’s recruitment and pre-employment screening process while also providing valuable support to agency investigations.

Join us in congratulating Sgt. A. Hodges on this outstanding accomplishment! Photos courtesy of Samarcand Training Academy.

This Father's Day, the Newport News Sheriff's Office honors the fathers who serve our community and their families. Balancing the demands of public service with the joys and responsibilities of fatherhood is no small feat — and we are proud to work alongside men who do both with integrity and love.

To every dad on Team NNSO and in our community: thank you. Happy Father's Day. 💙

Another incredible Shred Day in the books!

We lost count after 350 vehicles — and that says everything about how much this community shows up. Our parking area filled twice over, and despite the summer heat, everyone was patient, gracious, and grateful. That means a lot to our team.

A heartfelt thank-you to our volunteers.

Protecting your identity starts with properly disposing of sensitive documents, and we're proud to offer this service completely free of charge. Thank you, Newport News.

The City of Newport News United Honor Guard - Newport News Sheriff's Office Cpl. C. Cannady (brown uniform) and members of the Newport News Police Department and Newport News Fire Department - raised the Juneteenth flag for the Juneteenth Raising of the Flag ceremony at the Jessie M. Rattley Municipal Center Plaza. The Juneteenth flag was raised alongside the city and state flags as a symbol of reflection and pride.

This year's theme, "Still We Rise: Voices of Freedom," honors the resilience, courage, and voices of those who advanced the cause of freedom while recognizing that the pursuit of liberty, justice, and opportunity continues today.

Community Resource Officer, Capt. K.L. Gross spoke to students in the Basic Dispatcher Academy about the NNSO's Project Lifesaver program. The academy is a rigorous 12-week, nearly 400-hour training program designed to prepare new public safety telecommunicators—better known as 9-1-1 dispatchers—for the critical role they play in emergency response.

Public safety telecommunicators are often the first point of contact during an emergency. Their calm demeanor, quick thinking, and dedication help ensure that emergency responders receive accurate information and that assistance is dispatched as quickly and effectively as possible when every second counts.

We appreciate their commitment to serving the community and their vital role in public safety!

This year, a dozen Newport News Sheriff's Office Deputies were proud to assist with traffic control for the 19th annual Chick-fil-A 10K/5K, winding past the scenic Mariners' Museum and Lions Bridge for one of the Peninsula's most beloved Memorial Day weekend traditions.

Nineteen years of runners, walkers, families, and finish lines — and we were glad to play our part in keeping this marathon safe and running smoothly.

Here's to another great one. See you out there next year! 🏃
