Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder of freedom, perseverance and hope. May this day inspire us to recognize the progress that has been made, acknowledge the work that remains, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage that continues to strengthen our communities.

As a reminder, in observance of the holiday, the Clerk's Office is closed today, June 19th. We will reopen on Monday, June 22nd at 8 AM.

Today, we joined the City of Newport News for the Juneteenth Raising of the Flag at City Hall.

This ceremony was an important reminder that Juneteenth is both a celebration of freedom and a reflection on the long journey toward justice. This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œStill We Rise: Voices of Freedom,โ€ was carried through the powerful message of keynote speaker Dr. Cassandra Newby-Alexander, the moving poetry of Cassandra IsFree, and the beautiful musical performances of Amber Garrett and Michelle Cruz.

It was a beautiful moment in time spent together as a community; calling us to reflect on the past, celebrate freedom, and honor the voices still leading us forward.

๐ŸŽ“The Newport News Circuit Court Clerk's office is proud to celebrate three incredible graduates from our office family this year! From kindergarten through middle school to high school, these young scholars represent the very best of what dedication and hard work look like and they have families right here in our office cheering them on every step of the way. ๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŽ“ We also want to take a moment to recognize every member of the Class of 2026. No matter the milestone, graduation is a testament to your determination, growth, and limitless potential.

๐ŸŽ“ Congratulations to our Deputy Clerk Leadership Academy (DCLA) Class of 2026!

Last week we celebrated these remarkable young leaders from Ella Fitzgerald Middle School alongside our Academy Kids family; the Newport News Fire Department, Newport News Police Department, and the Newport News Commonwealth's Attorney's Office! ๐ŸŽ‰

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Lynch for fostering a mentorship program that provided real-life circumstances and learning; and to Dr. Ransome for his incredible partnership and dedication to his students.

To our DCLA graduates, you all demonstrated commitment to professional excellence, critical thinking skills including effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork! May each of you continue to serve our community; lead with boldness and remember, the change we all wish to see begins with each of us!

๐ŸŽจ A Special Spotlight | Sedgefield Elementary School โญ

We could not continue this series without stopping to celebrate something truly unique and that is exactly what Ms. Hundley's 4th grade artists at Sedgefield Elementary School delivered. ๐Ÿ’™

While our contest welcomed individual submissions, these students came together as a team and submitted not one, but TWO incredible group pieces that were proudly displayed at our Law Day Open House gallery alongside all other entries. The collaborative spirit and creativity these students brought was something our attendees will not soon forget. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŽจ "Together We Light Up the World"
โœจ Coreliannah L. | Laila S. | Charlise H.
๐ŸŽจ "We Can Change the World"
โœจ Sayeda P. | Alani H. | Olivia A.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Hundley and Sedgefield Elementary for inspiring your students to participate and for fostering the kind of classroom where art like this is born. ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ“ Both pieces are on display at the Newport News Circuit Court through the end of June.. come see them for yourself!

๐Ÿ‘€ Stay tuned!
