Today, October 10, 2019, marks the end of 77 years of consecutive service by the Foster family to the Long Beach Police Department. Lt. Jim Foster and Cpl. Billy Foster both retire today, with 54 years of combined service between them. They’re heading into retirement in the footsteps of their brother Michael, father Ron, and grandfather Jack—all of whom were Long Beach Police Officers, dating back to 1942.

Jimmy Foster and Billy Foster will be deeply missed at LBPD. Jim has done a phenomenal job leading us through some challenging times over the past 2 years as POA President. For every one of his 25 years, Jim served this department and our community with integrity and distinction. Billy has become a truly iconic member of our department. For the past 3 decades, Billy brought his wit and humor with him wherever he went. He’s the quintessential street cop, a not-half-bad singer, and the source for some of the funniest police stories we’ve ever heard.

On behalf of the men & women of the LBPOA, we wish Jimmy and Billy the absolute best in retirement!

Our condolences to Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office on the shooting death of Deputy Justin DeRosier, the first shooting death of a deputy in the 165 year history of a Department founded in 1854 and the second line of duty shooting death in the State of WA within the last month.

Late Saturday evening, April 13th, Deputy DeRosier responded to investigate reports of a disabled motor home. After arriving, he notified dispatchers that he was being fired at. Members of the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s and the Kalama PD responded to assist. The responding officers pulled Deputy DeRosier to safety and he was then flown to a hospital shortly before midnight. He died during surgery after midnight on Sunday, April 14th. His family was not able to see him before he passed.

Two suspects were taken into custody near the scene. A third suspect was shot & killed – who is the ½ brother of the man who murdered the Rainer, Oregon Chief of Police on January 5th, 2011.

Speaking of Deputy DeRosier, Cowlitz County Sheriff Thurman stated, "Deputy DeRosier made a huge impact in his short career and will forever live in our hearts and minds" Having been raised in the area by a family described a prominent in the community, Undershefiff Ullman said, with great emotion, of Deputy DeRosier, “Most of us have known him most of his life.”

Deputy Justin DeRosier was 29 years old, a 2012 graduate of Washington State University and had served as a Deputy since 2016. He leaves behind a wife and 5 month old baby girl, as well as extended family.

Rest in Peace to our young brother – dedicated to service.
