02/02/2026

After careful consideration and assessing road conditions we have decided to cancel services for Tuesday February 3rd. Thawing that has occurred today will be frozen solid in the morning creating even more hazardous conditions.

02/02/2026

Avery County Transportation will attempt to run main roads only for tomorrow Tuesday February 3rd. Walkways, driveways, most side roads, and gravel roads are still covered with glazed ice.
Do not try to walk on the ice. Reschedule your appointment.

Looks like were expecting a good old fashion snow storm.

❄️A winter storm warning has been issued for the entire area. Accumulating snow, some of which could be heavy, will start over the mountains this afternoon and spread east tonight. Snow ends overnight Saturday. Locally higher totals within focused snow bands will be possible.

We will update as needed, warming shelters will be put in place IF wide spread power outsges occur. BUT, as shown, as of now, seems this will be just a good ole fashion snow event which were used to in these mountains 😎

Regardless, prepare now instead of later! Stay tuned for updates!

01/29/2026

Avery County Transportation will not run vans on Friday January 30th. The safety of our clients is of upmost importance to us. The layer of ice still clinging to steps, walkways, and parking lots is still creating very hazardous conditions. We are sorry for any inconvenience this creates. Your safety is our #1 concern.
