Last night, the Green Pond Volunteer Fire Department (GPVFD) was part of the Morris County Tender Task Force response to a major warehouse fire in Belleville. Crews initially staged at Parsippany Fire District 5 firehouse and were escorted into the city by our county chief and mutual aid coordinators.

We are very proud of what we helped accomplish and to be a part of a tender task force that brought together departments from multiple towns and counties across the state—excellent teamwork all around.

Approx. eighteen tenders operated continuously, running from three fill sites through busy Belleville streets and converging into a single dump site supported by multiple portable ponds and pumper engines. And often times having to rework travel routes as the operation evolved. Once the operation was initially established, GPVFD ran close to 30 loads nonstop, averaging about 16 to 18 minutes per trip with our 3,000 gallon tender. That’s nearly 90,000 gallons of water delivered over approximately 9 hours.

In total, the task force likely supplied nearly 1 million gallons of water to support significant firefighting operations that included the use several aerial ladder trucks.

It was an incredible operation.

Yesterday, the members of the Green Pond Volunteer Fire Department had the honor of leading the funeral procession for Rich Kimble Sr. as we said goodbye to a lifelong resident of Rockaway Township and a true friend and supporter of our department.

Rich was part of the history of our firehouse, helping to build the addition many years ago — a lasting contribution that continues to serve our members and community today.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Kimble family and all who knew him. Thank you, Rich, for your support, dedication, and pride in our community. Rest in peace.

Last night, GPVFD held their annual holiday party where we are able to bring our families together to thank them for their support and sacrifices that make it possible for us to serve this department and our community. We could not do what we do without them.

We all give in different ways and at different times in our lives. Our roles within the department may change over the years, but our mission remains the same: to serve our community and to protect one another.

We also remembered one of our past chiefs Pete Tanis, who passed away yesterday. Our hearts are with him and his family.

Thank you to Picattiny Fire Department for hosting a Mutual Aid Ice Rescue Training Event.

Members of GPVFD Ice Rescue Team joined Picattiny FD, Jefferson Co.2, Mt. Arlington FD, Jefferson Rescue Ambulance Squad, and Parsippany Rescue and Recovery Divers for a simulated multiple victim rescue over a large area on the ice that required technicians to operate independently of the operations on the shoreline to make the rescues.
