This afternoon at appx 1256 hours, our dept was dispatched to the 400 block of Sawmill Rd SE for a confirmed structure fire. First alarm was filled by dispatch, and Engine 1302 responded. While enroute, 1302 crew noted heavy smoke showing from several miles away. Additional manpower and tankers are requested at this time. First arriving units found heavy fire conditions, and deployed several handlines. Shortly after arrival to scene, 1302 determined that all occupants were out of the residence at this time. Fire was brought under control by on scene units after extensive suppression and overhaul. Unfortunately, two pets did parish inside the residence. Assistance was given from Delaware Valley FD, Arrowhead Joint Fire District, Rush Township FD, Liberty FD out of Guernsey County, Tippecanoe FD out of Harrison County, Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office, and Tri Tri-County Joint Ambulance District.
After speaking to residents, it was determined that they were attempting thaw frozen pipes when the fire occured. The property was deemed a total loss by fire officials.
