πŸ”₯ Why create a Livestock Emergency Response Team?

In an emergency, every minute counts.

Having a list of trusted local contacts can help quickly identify:
β€’ Livestock trailers
β€’ Animal handlers
β€’ Veterinarians
β€’ Equipment
β€’ Temporary shelter locations
β€’ Volunteers
β€’ Agricultural resources

Instead of searching for help during a disaster, we'll already know who is willing and able to assist.

Preparedness starts long before an emergency.

Help us build that network by joining the Weston County Livestock Emergency Response Team interest list.

πŸ„ Introducing the Weston County Livestock Emergency Response Team (LERT)!

Emergencies don't wait for the right time. Wildfires, severe storms, transportation accidents, and other disasters can impact livestock operations with little warning.

That's why Weston County Emergency Management and UW Extension – Weston County are partnering to create the Weston County Livestock Emergency Response Team (LERT).

Our goal is simple:
βœ… Connect local resources
βœ… Build relationships before emergencies happen
βœ… Improve livestock emergency preparedness
βœ… Support producers when they need it most

We're currently building an interest list of individuals, businesses, and organizations that would like to stay informed, attend trainings, and learn how they can assist during livestock emergencies.

Whether you're a livestock producer, veterinarian, livestock hauler, equipment owner, volunteer, or simply someone who wants to help, we'd love to hear from you.

Together, we can build a stronger, more prepared Weston County.

Weston County Emergency Management and UW Extension are forming a Livestock Emergency Response Team (LERT) to strengthen livestock emergency preparedness before, during, and after disasters. No one ranch, agency, or volunteer can do it aloneβ€”but together we can be ready when our neighbors need us ...

FARM AND RANCH MANAGERS heading into 2027 face a familiar problem with an added complication. Fertilizer, fuel, machinery, financing, labor, and other production inputs are expensive. At the same time, no one knows with certainty what many of those inputs will cost when they are actually needed. As of its September 3 forecast, USDA estimates total U.S. farm production expenses at $492.8 billion for 2026, up 4.5 percent from 2025. Fertilizer, lime, and soil conditioner expenses are forecast up 15.3 percent, while fuel and oil expenses are up 28.8 percent ...
