Friends of NYS attended the City's CIP (City Improvement Plan) hearing and heard directly from City Councilors how important it is to attend Monday, April 29 City Council meeting-- arrive Hall 7PM, start 7:30PM.

Friends of NYS representatives spoke on behalf of Youth Services. We acknowledged the substantial line items for NYS new location over the next three years, and emphasized that Low Street is the ideal future site for Youth Services because of proximity to schools, accessibility to more young people, and adequate, flexible space that will take NYS into the future.

After the meeting supportive City Councilors reiterated that on Monday 4/29 we need to have LOTS of NYS champions in the room. This is the night when City Council will vote on whether to approve $65K for the Low Street feasibility study.

Voting “yes” means that they will proceed with exploring options for NYS in this location. Voting “no” stops exploration. This only allows for an option besides the Brown School to be considered- it does not make a final decision. We need representative individuals and families from all wards to attend the meeting, fill the room, send the message that you want them to Say YES to NYS!, and approve the feasibility study, and work to secure Low Street as Youth Services’ permanent home.

If you cannot attend, please send a letter before April 29 to your City Councilor, to the entire City Council, and/or the newspaper. We have emails and contact information on the Friends of NYS "Say Yes to NYS!" page.

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you on Monday!
