What is an Energy Bill Check-Up?
An Energy Bill Check-Up (EBCU) is a one-on-one session where a trained energy advocate sits down with you to review your gas or electric bill, identify if you are being charged correctly, and help you find programs and incentives that can lower your costs. Residents often discover they qualify for discounted rates, rebates, or bill assistance they were not aware of. Sessions are free, confidential, and available in English with bilingual support upon request.

Newburyport residents: There are two important community forums coming up this June — and your input matters.
Our regional partners at the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC), together with the municipalities of Salisbury, Newburyport, and Newbury, have completed a Regional Beach Sediment Management Study funded by a Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management (CZM) grant. The study used updated sediment modeling to better understand how sand moves along our barrier beaches and what management and nourishment strategies can best protect our coastline.

Now they're bringing the findings to the public — and they need community input to guide next steps.
📅 Thursday, June 4 | 5:00–6:30 PM
Blue Ocean Event Center | 4 Ocean Front S, Salisbury
📅 Friday, June 5 | 10:00–11:30 AM
PITA Hall | 8 Plum Island Blvd., Newbury

These forums are open to all — especially residents, property owners, and businesses connected to the Plum Island and barrier beach communities. Come hear the science, learn about resilience strategies, and have your say in the future of our shared coastline.

Community Event Announcement: The City of Newburyport's Resiliency Committee is sharing this invitation to an event sponsored by the Green Team of the First Religious Society-UU-Newburyport.

"You are warmly invited to join us for a free community gathering on April 19th in Newburyport at 1 pm, celebrating the power of local farms and the promise of local agriculture. The event is hosted by the Green Team of the First Religious Society-UU-Newburyport. It will be an opportunity to connect with local farmers and families and neighbors, and hear how we can all play a role in building healthier, more resilient communities. Our event will feature two local farmers, Stacey Apple of Iron Ox Farm and Andre Cantelmo of Heron Pond Farm, as well as Vanessa Johnson-Hall from Greenbelt, who protects local farmlands, and helps young farmers access land for farming.

Our panel will share how local farms that practice ecologically based and regenerative agriculture are at the heart of a thriving community. By growing food close to home, these farms deliver fresh, nutritious produce while cutting the environmental costs of long-distance transport. Regenerative practices — such as cover cropping, composting, and rotational grazing — go beyond simply reducing harm; they actively restore soil health, improve water quality, support biodiversity, and draw carbon back into the earth. When we support local farmers who use these methods, we invest in land that stays fertile for generations, food that nourishes our families, and ecosystems that support all living things.

We will have tabling opportunities for local farmers who would like to join the conversation and be present at a reception after the meeting. Come and learn from one another, support our common interests and support local farms and farmers."

This plan provides a statewide framework for coastal resilience in Massachusetts over the next 50 years, outlining guidance and strategies that address near- and long-term vulnerability to coastal hazards like sea level rise, storm surge, and erosion.

An in-person public engagement workshop is planned in Salem at the Bentley Academy Innovation School’s cafetorium on Monday, June 2 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

Written comments on the draft plan can be e-mailed to [email protected]. Comments must be received by 5:00 p.m. on June 12, 2025, but are welcome any time during the comment period.
