Get ready to grab your reading stack for the Adult Summer Reading Challenge!

The Newbury Public Library is thrilled to announce the launch of our Adult Summer Reading Challenge, running from June 1st through August 31st, 2026! This interactive program encourages you to engage with the library in new ways. Earn chances to win by visiting the library, reading books, attending events, or exploring our "Library of Things." Sign up anytime during the challenge by picking up your weekly BINGO card at the library—complete a row of five squares—featuring fun prompts like "check out a puzzle" or "read a NH author"—and get a ticket to be entered into the weekly raffle for a prize like a gift card to a local business or other fun prizes. Participants can win only once for the weekly raffle, but your tickets will also be entered into the monthly prizes, which will be picked at the end of June, July and August. Then, wrap up the challenge with us at our summer party in late August to celebrate your accomplishments and mark the end of summer. If you have any questions or would like to pick up a BINGO card, please send us an email, give us a call or speak with the librarian during your next visit.
The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Friends of Newbury Public Library!

Monday June 15th, 6pm at the Newbury Public Library! John Magee presents: Wind, Fire and the Untouched Forest of the Sunapee Ridge: the Effects of the 1938 Hurricane and a Massive 1947 Forest Fire. John is the latest in a historic line of explorers that has added his unique perspective to the understanding and importance of Mount Sunapee’s forests. He used aerial imagery from 1943, 1953 and later, two years of field data of tree species, sizes and crown and canopy damage, photographs from various years and interviews with a man who fought the fire at the age of 17 to piece together the effects on forests from these two major events – and document the existing old growth forests still intact and thriving.
