Newbury Fire Rescue The Newbury Fire Rescue Department is a call fire department serving Newbury residents and visitors. Mount Sunapee ski resort is located in Newbury.

The Newbury Fire Rescue Department provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fire suppression, emergency rescue and fire prevention services. There are 26 active members of the department who are emergency medical technicians (EMT) or firefighters, who respond to calls on a 24 hour basis when notified by pager by the New London Dispatch center. The department is headed by the fire chief and there

are also an assistant chief, captain and three lieutenants. The Town of Newbury is a community of 2,228 residents in west central New Hampshire, on Lake Sunapee.

CALL IF YOU CAN, TEXT IF YOU CAN’T

A good reminder from New Hampshire 911 that you can text 911 in an emergency when calling isn’t possible or safe.

If you are unable to speak, it isn’t safe to speak, or poor service prevents a voice call from going through, you can send a text message to 911.

Calling is still the best option when you can, but knowing that texting is available could make an important difference in an emergency.

🇺🇸 LABOR DAY WEEKEND SAFETY CHECK 🇺🇸

Long weekends are for relaxing, cookouts, road trips, fairs, camping, and spending time with the people you love. ❤️ But a little extra awareness can go a long way when crowds are bigger and routines are different.

Here are a few simple safety reminders for this Labor Day weekend:

🚗 Traveling?
Share your plans with someone you trust, keep your phone charged, and don’t post your location publicly in real time.

👀 Heading to a fair, concert, or crowded event?
Stay aware of your surroundings and choose a meeting spot in case your group gets separated.

🎒 Keep your belongings close.
Phones, wallets, purses, and keys can easily disappear when you’re distracted in a crowd.

👧 Have kids with you?
Make sure they know your full name and phone number, and remind them who to look for if they become separated from you.

🍔 Hosting a cookout?
Keep grills away from structures and never leave them unattended—especially with children or pets nearby.

🌙 Out after dark?
Stick to well-lit areas, walk with others when possible, and have your keys ready before reaching your vehicle.

🚘 And one of the biggest reminders:
If alcohol is part of your celebration, plan your ride BEFORE the fun begins. Never drive impaired.

Congratulations to Newbury Firefighters of the Year for 2024 and 2025.

Fire Chief Dave Smith received the award for 2024 and Firefighters/EMT Niko Cole-Johnson received the award for 2025.

Members of the Newbury Fire Department cast their votes for Firefighter of the Year which were presented by Lt. Jennifer Parkhurst Smith at the September 1st training session.

Serious Motor Vehicle Collision closes Newbury’s Route 103A for Five Hours.

At 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, Newbury Fire Rescue, Newbury Police, NH State Police, New London Police and New London Ambulance were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision on Route 103A near the Fells. One person was transported by ambulance and DHART helicopter to the hospital.

The road was closed and police would not reopen 103A until the state police accident reconstruction team arrived and completed their investigation. Traffic was diverted at Route 103 and at Bowles Road.

Once the investigation was complete, two flatbed tow trucks towed both cars away and the road was reopened.
