Newburgh Lions Club - Newburgh, NY Founded in 1923, the Newburgh Lions Club is dedicated to sight conservation & community service.

We provide vision screenings and eyeglasses to any child in the Newburgh Enlarged Central School District by referral from school nurses. We volunteer and support organizations in need of assistance and provide scholarships. Club meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at Chilito's Restaurant, 1401 Route 300, Newburgh, NY - all are welcome!

It is with regret that we inform you of the passing of Lion John Reale on March 26, 2026. John was a Newburgh Lion for 33 years.

John Philip Reale Obituary
John Philip Reale passed away on March 26, 2026 in Montgomery, NY, where he was a resident for over 30 years. The only son of the late Salvatore J. Reale and Denice Maier Reale-Saunders, he was born on August 11, 1947 in Pleasantville, NY. He was 78. He is survived by his partner, Margaret Grasso, of Montgomery, NY. He is also survived by his four children, Christopher B. Simpler and wife, Jenna, Robert C. Pepper and wife, Talia, Francesca R. McFadden and husband, Matthew, and Juliette M. Felde and husband, Adam. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michael McFadden, Paige Felde, Eli Salvatore Felde, Adelina Denice McFadden, Ethan McFadden, Gabriel Felde, Regina McFadden, and Sloan Felde.

He had a childhood interest in music, and especially enjoyed playing the accordion and the piano. He continued his passion for music at Ithaca College where he earned a degree in music, majoring in string instruments. He became a music teacher. He earned a Master’s in Counseling from Long Island University. After a career change, he served as an arbitration manager. In later years he became a realtor.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 3 from 7-9PM at Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc.39 Orchard Street Walden, NY 12586. Burial will be on Saturday, April 4th at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY at 10AM.

In partnership with the Woodbury Lions Club / Central Valley - Highland Mills NY and Cornwall Lions Club & Foundation, we will be providing our annual vision screening at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center (NAUC) in conjunction with the Orange County, NY Department of Health's Sweetheart Screening event. We will start at 8am to screen the children enrolled in NAUC's Enrichment Program.

You’re invited to a FREE health screening event on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 10 AM – 2 PM at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center. Enjoy health screenings, music, raffles, and more! Bring your partner, friend, family member or neighbor, because caring for your health is better together!

On January 8, 2026, we accomplished Lions Clubs International 2nd weeks of service project - Hunger. On January 9, 2026, we donated $100 to Meals on Wheels Greater Newburgh. Our LCIF Coordinator, Tony Sculley, presented the check to Meals on Wheels Newburgh's Executive Director Jennifer Verdin.
