🔵 CNPD WELCOMES THREE NEW POLICE OFFICERS 🔵

The City of Newburgh Police Department recently held a Badge and Gun Ceremony for Officers Elisha McLymore, Mario Flores, and Anthony Galindo.

This ceremony, traditionally held the day before the police academy graduation, is when the Police Department issues the graduating officers their official badge and gun.

Congratulations to our new officers and their families who joined them. We look forward to the positive impact you will make as you begin your service.

🔵 CNPD TAKES ANOTHER GUN OFF THE STREETS 🔵

On April 14, 2026, the City of Newburgh Detective Division became aware of a shooting that had previously occurred in the area of 137 Lander Street. The Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force began investigating the incident.

On April 18, 2026, at approximately 2:23 a.m., a ShotSpotter notification was received for five rounds in the area of 162 Lander St. Officers arrived at the scene and located spent shell casings and an unoccupied parked vehicle that had been struck.

During the morning of April 20, 2026, the City of Newburgh Emergency Services Unit (ESU) executed a search warrant at 162 Lander Street. Subsequent to an investigation and issuance of a search warrant, Terence Walker, an 18-year-old City of Newburgh resident, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree in connection with the April 14th shooting incident. Willie Cousar, a 19-year-old City of Newburgh resident, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree in connection with the April 18th shooting incident.

During ex*****on of the search warrant, the firearm pictured above was located. For the recovered firearm during the search warrant, Walker and Cousar were charged with another count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree. Inside the search warrant residence, a 17-year-old juvenile was located and also charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree.

The City of Newburgh Civil Service Commission is now accepting applications for the upcoming Police Officer and Police Officer (Spanish Speaking) exams. The exam will be held on May 9, 2026, and the filing period is open from March 13 to April 13, 2026.

Preference will be given to City of Newburgh residents. In alignment with Orange County’s recently declared Local State of Emergency, all non-essential City offices will be closed on Monday, February 23, 2026. City of Newburgh residents are advised to refrain from travel unless they are deemed essential personnel. The City Council meeting previously scheduled for February 23rd is cancelled and will be rescheduled once conditions allow. The City’s emergency departments will remain open to support public safety and critical operations.

Please be advised there are temporary parking restrictions on City-owned municipal parking lots, will be in effect overnight from January 28 at 6:00 PM through January 29 at 6:00 AM to allow for the snow removal in. All vehicles must be removed from the municipal lots listed below during this time. Vehicles found parked in violation will be ticketed and may be towed to ensure snow removal can be conducted safely and efficiently.

Parking will be prohibited in the following City-owned municipal parking lots during this overnight period:

• Ann Street Lots (111 Ann Street and 227 Ann Street, between Ann Street and Washington Street)
• Chambers Street Lot (25 Chambers Street, between Chambers Street and Lander Street):

City Manager Todd Venning has announced that the snow emergency in the City of Newburgh has been cancelled effective at 6:00 PM on January 27, 2026.

To allow for upcoming snow removal in City-owned municipal parking lots, temporary parking restrictions will be in effect overnight from January 28 at 6:00 PM through January 29 at 6:00 AM. All vehicles must be removed from the municipal lots listed below during this time. Vehicles found parked in violation will be ticketed and may be towed to ensure snow removal can be conducted safely and efficiently.

The City of Newburgh announces that City Hall will reopen to the public on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, with all City services and offices fully operational, following Orange County’s decision to lift the Local State of Emergency.

The City Council meeting originally scheduled for January 26 has been rescheduled for Monday, February 2, 2026, beginning at 7:00 PM at Council Chambers.

While County restrictions have been lifted, the City of Newburgh remains under a Snow Emergency. Residents are reminded that Snow Emergency parking regulations continue to be enforced. Vehicles parked in violation of emergency parking rules may be ticketed and towed to allow for continued snow removal and emergency access. Parking is permitted in City-owned municipal parking lots located on:

• Ann Street
• Van Ness Street (between Fullerton and Prospect Streets)
• Chambers Street

The City appreciates the public’s cooperation during this weather event and encourages residents to continue following Snow Emergency guidelines until the emergency is lifted. For updates, please visit the City’s website and official social media channels.
