Reminder that some school districts around us have already started. However, our kiddos kick off the school year on Monday and that means those yellow buses will return to our roads.

Attached is the 26-27 bus schedule for all communities. This should give you an idea if your current morning commute is going to be affected.

Look at this cool piece of history that was just dropped off at the office for the Newburgh Fire And Rescue to add to their collection.

These are tickets that were sold in 1962 to the Firemen's Ball that was held at the grange hall and town hall. I enjoyed looking through the Prize list and recognizing many names of families that still live here in Newburgh today.

We would like to introduce you to our new Boston Post Cane holder, who happens to have a birthday fast approaching.

Newburgh resident Charlotte (Khiel) Young will celebrate her 103rd birthday on August 25th. The town will honor its eldest living resident with the presentation of the prestigious Boston Cane Plaque, a famous New England tradition started in 1909 by Edwin A. Grozier, publisher of the Boston Post newspaper. Charlotte has lived in Newburgh for over 40 years.

Born in 1923 to parents John and Christine Khiel, Charlotte was raised in Maine with her four siblings, Melvin, John, Gerald and Virginia (Ginny). In 1945 she married Phillip Young and they began a journey that spanned 71 years. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Anne, James, Bethany (Pinky) and Reginald. Four grandchildren followed and she is now known as “Gubby” to her six great grandchildren.

Charlotte, Phillip and daughter Pinky moved to Newburgh after Phillip’s retirement from the University of Maine where he served as herdsmen of the dairy farm for many years. Together they created an idyllic property with large vegetable and flower gardens. With more time to travel, they enjoyed camping, fishing and visiting gardens and dairy farms in Maine and numerous other states including Hawaii and Alaska. Their foreign trips included Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Switzerland.

Charlotte is known to many as an exceptional knitter of children’s sweaters and personalized Christmas stockings. If you visit her today you will see her with knitting needles in hand working on the next batch of sweaters to be delivered. That is unless she is outside cutting the lawn on her riding mower! Her mind is sharp and if you challenge her to a game of Train Dominos you must be prepared to lose as many of her family members will attest. Aging at home with the companionship of her daughter Pinky, she still prepares the evening meal. Books, birds and a few select TV shows brighten her day as well as laughter and conversations with family and friends.

Join us in celebrating her day and wishing her many more to come.

No one ever wants to see summer come to an end, but the end of summer school break is fast approaching. This is a reminder to everyone that those big yellow school buses will be on the roads in the morning and afternoons again starting Monday August 31st.

The bus schedules are available in the Link22 that will be coming to a mailbox near you soon. This is your chance to see what time your kiddos will need to be out waiting or maybe an even better chance to see how those big yellow buses are going to impact your morning commute.

A heads up for anyone that travels Kennebec Road. They will be doing some works to the railroad tracks coming right up.

The Maine Board of Pesticides Control and Maine Department of Environmental Protection are hosting their annual Obsolete Pesticide Collection Programs in Maine. The events will take place in November at locations in Presque Isle, Bangor, Augusta, and Portland. This event is FREE for Maine residents, homeowners, and family-owned farms. Any pesticides or adjuvants are accepted. Registration prior to the event is required, and accepted participants will be notified of specific event details. This event is ONLY for pesticides, BPC will not accept oils, paints, or other hazardous materials. Registrations must be received by October 5th, 2026 to participate. Please see the attached event flyer for more details. Interested individuals can visit the BPC website to sign up or contact the BPC at 207-287-2731 or [email protected].

Lucky Duck Ice Cream Truck is parked and ready to serve you an ice cold treat on this beautiful day!! They will be here until 7pm so stop by before or after dinner or both.

This will be their last visit of the summer as sports schedules are getting ready to kick off and school is starting up before we know it.
