🚒 🚑 🏆 Congrats are in order 📣 ‼️

This past weekend, members took part in the various activities of the 79th Annual Convention of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association.

Some awesome highlights and accomplishments from the weekend include:

🌟 Charter/Life Member Ronnie Wright was remembered at the Memorial Service, with President Andrew Spalding and EMS Captain Liz Murphy placing a flower in the memorial boot in his honor.
🌟 Our own Eddie Godwin was elected into the position of 1st Vice President to the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association! This is such an amazing experience and we are so glad to step up in support of Eddie. Eddie will be the 4th member to step into this role and we know that he will represent not only our department but Charles County so well! That also means, the parade will be returning next year to the Southside!
🌟 Liz Murphy, Chair of Fire Prevention, was awarded 1ST PLACE for Class III Year Round Fire Prevention for our department’s submission. They work hard at various events spreading the message of fire safety all year, and their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed! Leading the charge for events such as Fire Prevention at our local first-due schools, to Shop with a Cop, to Open House, and everything in between, it highlights their amazing work.
🌟 Ambulance 149 won 1ST PLACE Best Appearing Ambulance overall! This unit continues to receive the highest of praise at the County, Tri-County and State level! Thanks to the extremely incredible talent of our very own “Art by Allan” right here in Newburg, this unit continues to be the focal point of conversations.

Making Newburg proud, serving our community in so many ways! Thank you to all of our supporters!

This morning, while waiting in line for the SMVFA parade to kickoff in Solomons, members witnessed a duckling fall into a water meter lid, becoming separated from its family. Of course, members sprung into action and rescued the duckling and reunited it with its family! It’s not always about the calls when serving the community.

A HUGE congratulations and shout out to our Fire Captain, Christian Merchant, on successfully becoming cut loose as a volunteer paramedic in Charles County! Many hours were put into this between classes, clinicals, and ride along hours - and we couldn’t be more proud of your accomplishment!

Congratulations to Paramedic Merchant on completing internship and being turned over as a PMIC!
