Our Mission is to reduce the fear and incidence of crime, enhance public safety and enforce the laws of both the State of Michigan and the City of Newaygo. We will do so by working in partnership with all citizens and the business community in the City of Newaygo. By working jointly with all public and private agencies and the com

The Newaygo Police Department shall treat all people in a fair and impartial manner. The National Weather Service is monitoring the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms across West Michigan this afternoon and evening.

🕓 TIMING:
Storms are expected to move into the area around 4 PM and may continue through approximately 11 PM.

⚠️ MAIN THREATS:
💨 Damaging wind gusts
🧊 Large hail
🌧️ Heavy rainfall
⚡ Frequent lightning

Localized minor flooding is also possible, with the greatest concern south of the I-96 corridor.

✅ PREPARE BEFORE STORMS ARRIVE:
📱 Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings
🔋 Charge phones and other essential devices
🏡 Secure outdoor furniture and loose objects
🚗 Never drive through flooded roadways
📍 Know where to shelter if a warning is issued

Storm timing and intensity may change. Stay weather aware throughout the afternoon and evening, and be prepared to take immediate action if a warning is issued.

Newaygo Police Department would like to send our condolences to the Family and Friends of Keith Arnold Wismar, with his passing on June 12, 2026.

Keith Wismar served the City of Newaygo as the 3rd serving Chief of Police, sworn in on 2/26/1987 until 2000. Keith Wismar started his service to the city as a Police Officer on 4/18/1980.

Newaygo Police Department again sends our condolences, and may Keith rest in peace knowing he made a difference through his service to the Newaygo Community.

Newaygo County Kids' Day was a great success! Through the support of our partners- The Ge**er Foundation grant, and MCOLES- Police Social Worker grant- we were able to distribute approximately 200 Life Jackets, 300+ safety whistles, and over 400+ educational water safety coloring books to children and families in our area.

In addition to these resources, Officer Magner and Officer Blake delivered two engaging and informative presentations that provided both children and adults with essential water safety knowledge. Their efforts helped reinforce the importance of safe practices in and around the water.

Overall, the event was well-attended and positively received. It allowed us to connect with families, promote safety awareness, and ensure that more children in our community are better equipped to stay safe this summer.

Newaygo County Kids’ Day 2026 is tomorrow!

Join us Saturday, June 6, from 12 PM to 3 PM at Brooks Park in Downtown Newaygo for a free afternoon of family fun for Newaygo County families.

Meet local law enforcement and first responders, enjoy a free lunch, visit community booths, play games, tour fire trucks and emergency vehicles, jump in the bounce house, and enter to win kayaks.

There will be activities, prizes, and fun for all ages.
