Today is National "Eat Your Vegetables Day"! 🥦🫛🫑🌽🥔🥕

If your vegetables come in a metal can, you can recycle ♻ the metal can!

If your vegetables come in a plastic bag, you cannot 🚫 recycle the bag. Please throw it in the trash, or (if clean and dry) put in a storefront bag recycling container.

This week is "National Waste and Recycling Workers Week", so we are honoring our very own staff member, Laura Merchant!

Laura is one of three Licking County Recycling staff members, and she's the "Recycling Services Representative". Her main role is to pick up recycling in almost 30 county government buildings throughout the entire county. You might also see her cleaning up outside our public recycling drop off bins too.

She has been with us since the end of 2024, and continually gets compliments from other county employees she interacts with. She is a dedicated environmentalist, recycler, and composter. We are so happy to have her on our team! 😀

CAN I RECYCLE THIS? YES! ✅♻

This is a metal lid (from a cheese dip glass jar) and it can be recycled in our public recycling drop off bins! Remove it from the glass jar, rinse it, and put it in the recycling. At the separating facility, magnets attract or eddy currents repel metals (depending on the type of metal) so they can be categorized for future recycling.

**NOTE** it's best if lids are about the size of your palm so the lid doesn't get stuck between moving pieces of machinery. Smaller lids (like from beer or pop bottles) should go in the trash.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM FANS!

Licking County Recycling will be leading kids/family programs at several local libraries in conjunction with their "Unearth a Story" summer reading programs!

Join us as we "Dig Into Decomposition" - we'll look at decomposition in action and take a look at things break down and become part of the soil again. Also get information about composting at home.

In honor of National VCR Day, here's a reminder that old VCR units - and many other electronics - can be recycled at retail stores near you.

**VCR tapes cannot be recycled! They are not the right shape of plastic, and the tape inside tangles around separating machinery. Please put them in the trash, or donate them if possible. (Many people suggest donating old VCR tapes to senior centers, preschools, or thrift stores - but call first to confirm, as we are hearing many of these places don't want VCR tapes since they, or their customers, don't have working VCRs anymore.)

CAN I RECYCLE THIS? NO! 🚫

We do not accept bags of any kind in our recycling program. They wrap around moving machinery, causing the machinery to jam and stop. Pet food bags can be recycled at local Pet Supplies Plus stores, otherwise they need to go in the trash.

Note - it looks like whoever put this in the recycling bin was using it to bring other recyclables to the bin. That's a great idea - but empty the bag out (we want the recyclable material in the bag!) and take it home to use again or put in the trash. Do not put it in our recycling bins.

One of our loyal followers, Noah P., found this large barrel recently in one of our public recycling bins. The barrel is made of a heavy cardboard/fiber material and has metal ends. While we do normally recycle cardboard (boxes that are flattened) and metal (cans or cups), this item is definitely not something that should have been put in our recycling bins since it's not quite the "style" of cardboard or metal materials we accept. And the size alone is problematic when going through separating machinery (it wouldn't fit). It also took up so much space in the bin! Please do not put such large items in our public recycling bins - they should go in the trash.
